MisterBill99 Posted March 8, 2011 #1228 Share Posted March 8, 2011 (edited) Hi to Everyone............ Has anyone ever booked a GTY X balcony cabin on the Solstice? If so, could you share some insight as to where the cabin might be located and would it have an obstructed view? I've never booked this category before but have sailed on the Solstice previously in balcony cabins. We are sailing on the Solstice again next month and would so appreciate thoughts and/or comments on this if you have booked this type of cabin. Thank you so much. By definition it can be anything from the worst class of balcony (2D Deluxe Ocean View Staterooms have obstructed veranda views) to the best. It all depends on the cruise and how many of the lower prices cabins they have sold and what they have to fill up. With guarantee bookings, If you will not be happy with a worst category you could end up with, do not book that way. BTW this is not the place to be asking questions like that. It's possible your post and my reply will be deleted. Edited March 8, 2011 by MisterBill99

landfallgurl Posted March 15, 2011 #1233 Share Posted March 15, 2011 (edited) 12th level. On the port side. Bed by the full bath. Rumbling noise above;Oceanview Cafe located there.Sounds like thunder or rolling carts.Tolerable, though from my husband's point of view.Everything else about this suite is perfect and we would take this suite again. No wind problems unless the front door of the suite were to open while the veranda door was open on a windy day.Still, not bad.Convenient location for not having long walks accessing other areas of interest on the ship.Lots of closet space. unforgettable Posted March 23, 2011 #1238 Share Posted March 23, 2011 Deck - 9 Cabin # - 9292 Class – Deluxe Verandah - 1A Starboard or Port Side - Starboard Bed near?(balcony or bath) –Balcony Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Cabin is not as quiet as previously reported by other pax. It is close to the stairs and elevators so you hear alot of noise from those two areas, including music that travels upward from the Grand Foyer. The pax in the cabins on either side of us were also really loud, too - you could hear their tvs and conversations - and, of course, the slamming of cabin doors. Balcony View - Great views; no obstructions straight to aft. No visibility forward. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Deep (not wide) hump balcony is really enjoyable. Was wind a problem? Nope If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? The cabin is lovely but it's long and narrow so it's a bit of a trick for two or more pax to move around the cabin at the same time. Think we'd prefer the space in a Sky Suite for future cruises. Any other comments? The bathroom is really spacious and modern.

Balcony View - Obstructed - top of lifeboats level with floor of balcony. This cabin was between lifeboats so white posts raised higher than floor level. Horizontal view fine, vertical view obstructed. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - normal. Was wind a problem? Nope If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? Not really a problem but with separated beds it was tight getting around the beds. Any other comments? The bathroom is really spacious and modern and there was lots of storage space. Balcony View - Unobstructed, although you can't see the forward part of the ship - full view aft. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? Oversized -huge! Was wind a problem? Never If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? None Any other comments? This is one of the "back side of the aft hump" cabins. Connects with 1126 but we didn't hear a peep out of that cabin. Close to aft stairway and elevators but far enough to be extremely quiet. Excellent cabin. Think we'd take one on the forward side of the hump next time, to see the front of the ship, but no complaints with 1124.

Occasionally you could hear noise from above (Oceanview Cafe) but nothing distracting. Never heard noise from either side of us. BALCONY VIEW: Unobstructed, we had breakfast on the balcony several mornings. The balcony was covered however, so not good if you are looking to get sun. BALCONY SIZE: Average. WIND A PROBLEM?: No SOOT A PROBLEM?: No PROBLEMS/COMMENTS: Room was great. Our Butler Rastif (told us to call him Rusty) and our cabin steward Arun could not have been nicer and more attentive. Although we didn't use the butler service all that much (basically just for breakfast delivered to the room and dry cleaning) he was always available. Room was a very nice size and very comfortable. By far the best part was the shower, the huge waterfall shower head was amazing. I would definitely stay in a Sky Suite again.

Note if connecting. ) – Yes, very quiet. It's below the Sky Suites cabins on Deck 12 Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – The diagonal struts holding up the Deck 14 (there is no Deck 13) Oceanview Buffet start just below Deck 11 and reach up through Deck 12 to the bottom of Deck 14. They are positioned between every two cabins and really not an issue. If the next cabin is occupied by someone you want to share the balcony with, make sure you get side-by-side cabins that are x1,x3 and x5,x7, etc.. (on the odd/port side - all I know about) because the partitions are irregular where the diagonal struts angle up, but can still be opened. Between true side-by-side rooms without struts, there is a full partition that can be opened fully and can be easily passed through. We had 1641 and 1643 (not officially adjoining - none are in AQ), and we had the full partition door opened by the stateroom attendant. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal. Was wind a problem? No If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? Any specific problems with this cabin? Any other comments?

kelmac Posted March 30, 2011 #1247 Share Posted March 30, 2011 Ship: Eclispe Deck - 8 Cabin # -8351 Class – SV Starboard or Port Side - Aft Bed near?(balcony or bath) – Balcony Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Very quiet cabin. Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Beautiful View of the wake! We loved it. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal Was wind a problem? no If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? Minor problems with very small spots of soot. We brought alone a special towel to wipe things down. Some people do not like the fact that this balcony receives much more direct sunlight compared to others -- we liked that we could "sun" on our veranda. The privacy issue from people above is not a big deal. A bit more motion in an Aft cabin, but once again, we loved it. Great sleep environment! (balcony or bath) – Bath Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Yes, very quiet. Absolutely no noise from connecting neighbors; perhaps they were seldom on their balcony. Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – Nice view - high enough to see beyond lifeboats below to the pier, ocean, whatever of interest... Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal. Nice chairs and table for breakfast. Was wind a problem? No, and no smoke from other balconies either... If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? Any specific problems with this cabin? Not one complaint. Any other comments? Very nice layout; my bride appreciated the natural light with the mirror / desk (makeup & hair drying station) location over by the balcony for natural light, and I loved the closet being away from the outward opening bathroom door - it made dressing for dinner etc. very convenient. lovemybichons Posted April 3, 2011 #1250 Share Posted April 3, 2011 Deck - 11 Cabin # - 1550 Class – AQ Starboard or Port Side - PORT Bed near?(balcony or bath) – BATH Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – MOSTLY; I could very occasionally hear housekeeping going into the supply closet right outside, but they seem sensitive to the noise it makes. The next door cabin's door, however, does make a lot of noise as people go in and out of their cabin. Fortunately, there is NO noise from upstairs, or through the walls. Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions was an issue. – On the balcony looking to the right, there is an overhang from the upper deck--it did get in the way of some pictures I wanted to take; but just sitting and looking toward the front of the ship there were no problems with the view. Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal Was wind a problem? Not at all If an aft cabin, was soot a problem? N/A Any specific problems with this cabin? No Any other comments? There is very little drawer space...this surprised me, and the storage space above the bed was too high for me to reach without literally standing on the bed.
