Mercury 11/3 review (part 2)

11/11 Cabo San Lucas

Arrival time 9 am. Taking the tender in took about 25 min. total time.

We had a private excursion booked there also. We chartered a sailboat for the day. Dennis met us on the pier and we proceeded to his boat (Dream Seaker) in the harbor. We had done this sort of thing previously in St. Thomas on "High Pockets", so were a bit dissappointed in this one. It was pricier and we seemed to get way less for our money than we did in St. Thomas. Dennis had promised that our St. Thomas trip was a 3* and that his would be a 5*, but it seemed to be the reverse.

Got back to the pier about 4 pm and did some last min. shopping in the port shops.

We sailed at 5:45 heading back to San Francisco. We would be at sea all day Friday and Sat. arriving in San Fran. on Sunday morning.

Casual dinner

11/12 Sea Day

Didn't do much, played in some shuffleboard tournaments, read, gambled.

Last formal night. Aha, finally the tables surrounding ours have put some suits on. Perhaps something was mentioned to them afterall?

11/13 Sea Day

Our big event for the day (haha) was Bill winning the men's shuffleboard tournment. Needless to say, I lost in the women's.

Got our packing done in the afternoon and went to the last show at 7 before dinner. It was a review of some of the previous acts and the cruise in review video which is quite funny.

I did allow the casino to clean me out for the last time before getting off.

11/14 San Francisco

Arrived at about 6 am and came under the bridge in the dark. First off the ship at about 9 am after clearing customs. We had arranged a limo to the airport as we had a noon flight and were concerned with the timing after seeing how late the folks were getting off as we got on. We had plenty of time arriving at the airport at about 10 am.

Overview:

Mercury is as nice as ever. Clean, great crew, fabulous butler. Victoria our Cabin Stewardess couldn't have been better....almost invisible, but everything always done when you got back. Her asst. Frederick was the most charming young man, always full of smiles and running to get the door open every time he saw us coming down the hall.

Our favorite Navigator Bar is still our favorite place and still under-utilized. We could sit up there and have drinks before dinner and never be in a crowd.

Just our observations, but the people on this particular cruise were much, much older than we anticipated. There was an abundance of walkers, wheel chairs, electric carts and canes. I guess we were expecting a more active crowd on this itnineray. Also many foreigners sailing with us. Not that it's any problem, just an observation. The combination seemed to add up to a crabbier crowd.

The dress in the dining room is what really needs addressing. Either enforce it or abolish it altogether. I would prefer it be enforced, but that doesn't seem to be happening.

Captain and crew delightful as always. Social Hostess Winnie, delightful also.

Any questions, ask away and if I can answer them I surely will.

Again, these are my opinions only, so take it as that please.

Thanks for taking the time to write your review, I really enjoyed reading it. My husband and I will be on the Mercury 12/06/04 to the Mexican Riviera, and I was wondering why your ports were switched around, and is that something that we should be concerned about? Also, have you ever used the T-pool, and if so, is it worth the extra money? Okay, now for the food question...... were there any appetizers, soups, salads, main courses or desserts that you especially enjoyed? This will be our first cruise with Celebrity, and I am looking forward to seeing how it compares with our past cruises. I'm sure that we will have a terrific time, that's why we keep coming back to cruising for our vacation of choice.

Thanks, Peggy

We never did find out why the ports were switched around, I would check closer to your cruise and see what your's will be.

As for the food, I think this cruise was an improvement over the past few. Be sure to tell your waiter to let you know what is especially good and what you don't want to order. They're pretty good at recommending things.

Try the chilled soups, they're my favorites. Even the ones that don't sound as good, really are.

If in doubt with salads, you can always order a caesar any night that you'd like, I did that a few nights.

Main courses, do not order the Lamb steaks, they're always tough as nails, but the Rack of Lamb was great. We had it two nights, fixed differently each time and it was equally good. The filet was great and cooked just right. Always the lobster.

Desserts, when in doubt order more than one and sample them.

As for the T-pool, we had it free with a suite, but when we don't my husband always is happy to pay for it, he uses it daily. It's great on this ship, stronger and better we feel than on the M-class ships. You can get a package price for the length of your cruise.

The shows were a pretty even split. We have late seating all the time and some were at 7 before dinner and some were 10:30 after dinner. If ours were early shows, the early dinner had theirs at 9 I think it was.
