loungeboy Posted January 23, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2009 I have what I hope is a simple question that one of you Silversea vets can answer. I have run this by my travel agent who is either playing dumb, or .... I asked for a quote on an Alaska trip this summer. I get my invoice with everything broken down: trip cost, port charges, air, guestcare insurance, reassurance fee, and ends with the total of all of it. Great. Then it shows the 10% deposit due. Using my rudimentary math skills it becomes apparent that the 10% deposit due does not equal 10% of the total shown above. In fact they differ by a few hundred dollars. The TA tried to explain that it is because it includes the Reassurance fee which makes no sense. They numbers just don't jive. Anyone have a clue?
Paulchili Posted January 24, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 24, 2009 I am only guessing here - I think the insurance part is due in full + 10% of the cruise fare. Does that add up?
loungeboy Posted January 24, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted January 24, 2009 I am only guessing here - I think the insurance part is due in full + 10% of the cruise fare. Does that add up? Thanks! Your response helped me figure it out. The deposit is 10% of the cruise fare plus the total Reassurance fee. The port charges and the insurance don't seem to be included in the calculation. I knew I came to the right place.;)

lord of the seas Posted January 24, 2009 #5 Share Posted January 24, 2009 Surely your TA should have been able to explain the charge.
wripro Posted January 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted January 24, 2009 I echo Lord of the Seas. If your TA couldn't explain that to you I would wonder what else he/she doesn't know.
loungeboy Posted January 24, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted January 24, 2009 I agree about the TA but it was kind of my own fault for emailing him at the end of the day on Friday instead of giving him a call. That just led to a hurried response and a "we'll talk on Monday". It wasn't anything urgent and I figured I could figure it out myself. But yes my partner and I were just having this discussion. We use this travel agent who is tied to our silvery charge card (hint hint) and we find that we have yet to have a great experience with any of the TA's we have used with this service. wripro Posted January 25, 2009 #8 Share Posted January 25, 2009 Loungeboy, You don't need to use a TA tied to Amex. Any TA can get you the same benefits. At least any Ta who knows what he's doing.
loungeboy Posted January 25, 2009 Author #9 Share Posted January 25, 2009 Thanks wripro! Good to know!:)
pjunction Posted January 25, 2009 #10 Share Posted January 25, 2009 I always use my Plat Amex for direct bookings with my Personal Vacation Consultant at Silversea. What are the benefits and do I have to ask for them. Something tells me I have missed out on a few of them.
wripro Posted January 25, 2009 #11 Share Posted January 25, 2009 If you book directly with SS you cannot get the Amex PLatinum benefits ($300 shipboard credit plus a bottle of Dom Perignon). However any TA can get you those benefits if you pay with your platinum card.
Wellseasoned Posted January 25, 2009 #12 Share Posted January 25, 2009 Actually, if you book directly with Silversea, they DO give you the same benefits if you use the Platinum Amex. I have done this several times.
wripro Posted January 26, 2009 #13 Share Posted January 26, 2009 Then I stand corrected. Sorry!
