No, you don't have to leave at a certain time. Usually, people use the self-debarkation to get off quickly after the ship has been cleared.

Yes. If you have Express Disembarkation, you'll have an assigned time, just the same way as all those who are disembarking later without their luggage -- except that you will be in the very first group to get off.

Note: In nearly every US port except San Juan, self debark is permitted. Due to the high number of Muslim Terrorists and nuclear device smugglers sailing into Puerto Rico, self-debark is forbidden in that port.

If you are in no rush, then let the cruise line take your bags the night before disembarkation. Then you can get off as late as 9:00 AM, or a little after, and claim your bags at the pier.

 

Self embarkation passengers are asked to leave the ship first. Carrying your own luggage through the crowds later on isn't the safest way to exit the ship for you or others leaving in groups.

If you have considerable luggage it wouldn't be a great idea to take it to breakfast. Just let your luggage stay in the cabin until after breakfast & then proceed to the waiting area. Your cabin steward can still make up the beds but will wait until you vacate the cabin before cleaning the bathroom. Although they would like you off the ship first when carrying all your luggage there's no reason you have to be as long as you can maneuver carrying it.

When did this start being the case? We self disembarked in 2007 and was off the ship no later than 8 am.

If you are traveling with carry on sized luggage only, you will have no problems going to breakfast with them. When you enter the dining room for breakfast, there are many pieces of luggage just outside the door, and many people bring their carryons to the table with them.

 

One cruise, we traveled with carry ons only, went to the sit down breakfast, then went up to Skywalkers for a while. When they were calling the last group or so, we went down and walked right off the ship. We were not holding up the process as there were still others leaving, but it was so easy as there were not the usual hordes trying to jam the doorways.

 

If you are going to try to do this with full sized luggage or multiple bags, I would not try it. Put the large cases out the night before and just hang on to your carry ons.

I was on the Carnival Victory in Nov, and my our group all did self disembarkenment??? it was great we were off th ship and on our way to the airport in fifteen minutes.

The self-disembarkation group is usually the very first to leave. The last two cruises we did that and were outside on the dock by 8:15 am. If you have a late flight, you'll be assigned a color and which lounge to wait in to be called. Keep in mind that by 11 a.m. or so the next load of passengers for the next cruise is already coming onboard and the room stewards do need a little time to get the cabins ready for those. You will find out by what time you have to be out of your cabin, it's probably earlier than you think (or wish:mad:).

One thing to remember, is your door key card will not work on your room after 10am. If you leave you baggage in your room, the room steward will have to open it for you.
