The Fox Posted January 29, 2009 #27 Share Posted January 29, 2009 If this is the Ocean Village, which I think it currently is, then in it's previous lives it's names have been:Arcadia, Star Princess and Fair Majesty. The tonnage is 63,524, and it first entered service in March 1987. Regards Michael hi mick, your rite on all accounts ocean village one is the sister ship to dawn princess and will be sailing out of brissie.the ocean village soon to be pacific pearl will sail from NZ and sydney col
takeout Posted January 29, 2009 #28 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Pacific Pearl was built in 1989 in france for Sitmar however before completion Princess bought Sitmar and renamed her Star Princess she cruised the us for some time then Carnival Plc transfered her to P & O UK to become Arcadia she then went to Ocean Village where she will be until transfer to P & O Aust in 2010. Found this info on Reuben Goosens site. Rgds Sean:)
Ela 2 Posted January 29, 2009 #29 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Someone provided Wikipedia links the other day - all three ships were commissioned by Sitmar, with the Pac Dawn and Pac Jewel design based on the Pac Pearl, which is a few years older. So Pac Pearl was the prototype of the class, I guess. Dawn and Jewel were under construction when Carnival (?) bought Sitmar. Hi Neal, P & O bought Sitmar in September 1988. In 2001 P & O/Princess Cruise Lines merged with Carnival. :):) As has been said already, the ships in question were under construction for Sitmar at the time of the sale to P & O. Evon. Down-Unders Posted January 29, 2009 #30 Share Posted January 29, 2009 P&O Cruises has just announced that the next ship to join its fleet will be named Pacific Pearl and will commence Australasian itineraries at the end of 2010. The cruise line said details of voyages were currently being finalised, with cruises set to go on sale from March. The 2000-passenger Pacific Pearl is a sister ship to incoming superliner Pacific Jewel, which joins the fleet in December. Carnival Australia ceo Ann Sherry said Pacific Pearl had been chosen as the name "because it evokes these wonderful and tropical images of the places we visit." Pearl is currently sailing as Ocean Village in the UK and will undergo a refurbishment before its new deployment. Copy from cruise weekly breaking news. Sundance12 Posted January 29, 2009 #31 Share Posted January 29, 2009 Is it just me or is the pacific pearl-to-be quite ugly.. harsh looking nose.. but good viewing areas at the front
Single Cruiser Posted January 30, 2009 #32 Share Posted January 30, 2009 OV1 (Pacific Pearl) is the best of the two OV vessels. A nice dome Nightclub, a large cinema, swim-up bar etc.. Those windows at the front above the OV are actually passenger cabins, not many ships have forward facing cabins nowadays!
Single Cruiser Posted January 30, 2009 #33 Share Posted January 30, 2009 Ov2 (Pacific Jewel) is on the left, OV1 (Pacific Pearl) on the right. Taken this month by cruisecritic members on the OV board.

Kiwi Kruzer Posted January 31, 2009 #35 Share Posted January 31, 2009 If you have a look at Barts "Ship Parade" web site he has an alphabetical listing of ships. http://www.shipparade.com/Ship_Alphabet.htm Click along the top bar on O. OV and OV2 are there. Click on more interior shots. There are also some of OV when she was a bit more upmarket as Arcadia. Good shots of the Atrium. One bar that is really nice on OV is the Oval. LouLou28 Posted January 31, 2009 #39 Share Posted January 31, 2009 Ok so Pacific Sun will be based in Fremantle...Pacific Dawn in Brisbane...Does anyone have any certain info on where Pearl & Jewel will be based?? As far as I've heard Pacific Dawn will be staying in Sydney, Pacific Jewel will sail from Brisbane. I don't believe there's been any official announcement about the Pacific Pearl, but Sydney/Newcastle/NZ have all been mentioned around the traps. And, yes, Pacific Sun definitely moving to Fremantle
cruisin-m Posted February 1, 2009 #40 Share Posted February 1, 2009 Another NEW - OLD ship for us, also a sister ship to Pacific Dawn ex Regal Princess right?Would have been built around 1991 then. No doubt she will be as good as new with a multi million dollar refit. Carnival spent A$40 million on Regal Princess on refit as Pacific Dawn. Nah Pacific Pearl is Ocean Village 1, which is a completely different ship, around 50 000 - 60 000 odd tonnes from what I remember and built in 1986 or something similar, out of the P&O vessels it most resembles Pacific Sun. Would be nice if we got a "new new" liner for a change, sure the boat will scrub up fine though.
