Night Vision?

Has anyone ever brought night vision goggles or binoculars on a cruise? I'm considering picking up a pair, and wondered if I'm the only strange one that would want to see the ocean better at night...anyone know of any decent night vision binoculars that aren't out of this world price-wise?

I always bring our binoculars on cruises--but don't have night vision ones. A lot would depend on where your cruise is going. There's not a whole lot to see in the eastern Caribbean, for instance.

Theres' nothing to see at night in the middle of the ocean, so night vision anything isn't worth bringing along. You don't cruise near any land, and using night vision stuff won't make looking into the ocean any easier----there's just nothing to see.

I'm thinking more for the sealife that may be out there...as well as for at home (I have woods on the property)

There won't be much to see of sea life as they tend to be much deeper in the water that not even night visions would penetrate.

The night vision goggles basically work off heat and the only sealife you may be able to pick up would be whales. (fish will be the same temperature as the sea). Not worth it.:)

Actually, night vision amplifies visible light, and infrared works off of heat. Neither one can see through water however so you probably would not see too much, except mabye other ships that you might pass in the night.
