cruisinbuddy Posted January 30, 2009 #1 Share Posted January 30, 2009 This was a great cruise. 6 of us all family, did our 1st b2b cruise and it was fun. The food was great every night. Lido food was good, different everyday for lunch. Breakfast was the same everyday, but how can you really change breakfast? The staff were all very friendly. The ship was awesome. Ok I wouldn't put the decor in my house but it wasn't as bad as other people made it out to be. Service; Lido, was great. We got to know a few waiters and by the end of the 2 weeks we were getting free glasses to take home. Piano bar, very good. Dining room, 1st week great, 2nd week not so good. Other lounges, very good. Our room steward was the BEST. He was quite visible(sp) and what ever we asked for, including extras we got. We never had to ask for ice. He told me if you need something chilled just leave it out in the morning and he'd put it on ice, and I didn't have to tip him the first day. I did tip him extra on the last day. This was the 1st cruise I've ever tipped the Maitr'd. He moved us from a crappy table off in a corner on the 1st leg, to the main room in the Posh. Then DW asked about the galley tour. Only 10 + cruisers get that, well he told us where to meet, and we joined the tour. Ports were good, too bad we missed Costa Rica due to a medical emergency, but as the Captain explained, we could have gotten there but only for two hours. Hmmm, 3000 people off and on the ship in 2 hours, I don't think so. All in all a great cruise.
cccer Posted January 30, 2009 #2 Share Posted January 30, 2009 Glad you had a good time, we will be going in a couple months. There is a long thread here somewhere about your cruise, mostly about missing Costa, but a lot of other good information there.
DaveOKC Posted January 30, 2009 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2009 Glad to hear your nice comments on the Freedom. We are sailing on her in three weeks! My wife is planning her clothing purchases now. I showed her the new dress codes in the dining room, but now she wants to know how cold it is in the dining room for dinner (and I guess the rest of the public areas). We are doing the Western 6 day. Thanks DaveOKC
LizaMM Posted January 30, 2009 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2009 Thanks for the review! Glad to hear that you had a good time. I am especially happy to see that you enjoyed the Piano Bar...there have not been to many reviews of the Piano Man and the experience there and those that I have read were not so wonderful. Could you tell me a little more?? Also....if you have the Capers for the 8 day Western leg and have a way to post or email them could you let me know?? Thanks! cruisinbuddy Posted January 30, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted January 30, 2009 cccer, The Op in that thread was in our roll call. DaveOKC, my wife said the 1st week she needed a wrap or Pashmina (sp) but the 2nd week she was fine. So buy your wife a nice wrap, ;) Lizamm, That was for the service. Peter, the piano player was a very talented pianist but his vocals, He likes to do a lot of fallsettos and can't. Never ever request a BeeGees tune, you will regret it. The best song that he played was Queens Bohemian Rapsody. If you want to have some fun as soon as you walk in request Kokomo and see what he does. We did have some fun but it wasn't as good as the Liberty in '07 with Robert C.

Gater Girl Posted February 1, 2009 #12 Share Posted February 1, 2009 We were on that cruise too and I also found the Freedom to be delightful. I also would rather miss Costa Rica so a man could live...rather than go there and as one wise poster mentioned...It is an excuse for another cruise ..to see Costa Rica. The only complaining I heard..and we heard plenty..was about all of the veteran Carnival Cruisers who found a letter in their cabins telling them they were assigned to late dinner instead of early dinner. I have always found Carnival cruisers to be happy go lucky, and that was part of the pleasure of Carnival, but I think Carnival misjudged how much people plan around their dining time. It involves medical issues..routines of a lifetime...digestion problems..early to bed people....Even one happy go lucky bachelor boy I meet in the Casino ( with his lovely girlfirend) was furious. He works out at dawn every morning and at heart was a health devotee. He says he will never cruise Carnival again...that they have lost his trust. And it worries me. Is that a new policy? Will we find a letter changing us? Other than that.........it was the nicest cruise we have been on. And did you see the Beatles Show?? That was as good as Broadway..and better than some on Broadway. I am glad you had a good time..found everyone friendly..everything clean..lots to do........that was also our experience.
Gater Girl Posted February 1, 2009 #13 Share Posted February 1, 2009 The Chic Dining Room was cold. I wore, after the first freezing night, a long, thick shawl that I wrapped around me. My husband, after two cold nights wore a cardigan sweater..except on formal nights and he wears a suit then. I watched a family from Canada at the table close to ours. I had seen some of them swimming on a chilly day (to me ...a Florida Resident) and I wondered at their toleration of cold temps. BUT...on the second night in the Chic Dining room..I noticed that .the ladies wore wraps. By the last night...one of the daughters wore a padded jacket. If Canadians are chilled...it is chilly. AND I am not saying that the food was not very good...it was. And I am saying that the service was excellent. And that we did not enjoy every dinner we had in there...we did. Just tell your wife to take a substantial warm wrap...just in case. And you might pack a sweater. It was chilly in there.

We were moved from early seating to late but we thought we'd try it out. We didn't like it but we didn't complain. Glad you gave us the insite to the Chic dining room so DaveOKC's wife can make plans for which ever dining room they get.

I would imagine that it could make a difference if quite a few opted to change their dining time
