SPLENDOR passing thru Barbados on Wed. 4th. February -what's up?

Let me tell you about my experience on the Splendor over New Year's..

-she has the loudest, shakiest thrusters I have ever seen or heard or felt!!!

We were in the "L shaped" aft and would have stuff falling all over our room when she docked

and so was the dining room

- there is something wrong with her I am convinced!!!

Glad to hear it's not just me,then!

It was such an unusual sound that...this morning I let the camera hang from my neck

as I cupped my ears in my hands to help me hear better

and yes indeed, I wasn't mistaken: that weird loud sound was coming from Splendor!

I immediately equated it with the single other weird ship noise I recall..

and that was one of the (much older) Saga ships, if my recollection is okay.

That's how striking this morning's noise was!

I'm glad I mentioned this!

Now we know it's not just our imagination playing tricks on us.

The sound I heard was emanating from the bow section of Splendor

and was associated with thruster activity

-I watched closely to make sure of that!

Like you say...something's wrong!!

A ship of less than one year afloat shouldn't be making that kinda vibration racket.

She'll be on dry dock for that, soon enough!

When we were dining one morning prior to docking we had to hold onto our glasses they were shaking so bad and one of the waiters tried to tell me that all ships do this - what:eek:???? I have been on a lot of other ships and they do shake - but NOT LIKE THIS!!!!

Wonder if anyone else has noticed this - strange we haven't heard much about it.

Love your photography skills by the way!

Nah, I think it is normal. I was on the first 3 cruises and learned to love the bow thrusters. It was really enjoyable when we were in the canal approaching Amsterdam. A couple of hours or so of thrusters running. :)

Funny you should mention that....

We were having breakfast one morning on Carnival Destiny

while going alongside at St.Maarten and the vibration was pretty darned bad

...much like what you described above ..breakfast cutlery jumping up and down like a seismic event!

It only happened that one morning.

Back in November, we did a short cruise on Carnival Victory

and had no such experience...very smooth ship!

Here's a picture of yet another peaceful vibration-free breakfast

on Carnival Victory (Nov. 2008)

Very nice shots. There are some people on our Pride Panama Canal cruise that are on board the Splendor. They are doing the whole Miami to LA cruise (49 days), spending a few days in LA and then boarding the Pride back to Miami! Now that's a cruise experience to remember.

WOW!! That would be an amazing trip.

very nice picture. Thanks. ===> I got outa bed at 0540 to do them!

I am curious..... I don't see the banner at aft saying "keep 50 feet away..."

I think maybe they get that security sign up

once they properly docked with all lines ashore tight ...not while they're coming in.

I think it's 50 metres, btw..
