Aplmac Posted February 4, 2009 #1 Share Posted February 4, 2009 Carnival SPLENDOR is passing thru Barbados on Feb. 4th. as a one time thing..I'm pretty sure (Victory does the weekly loop from P.Rico to Barbados and back) Where's Splendor going to? -from? Is this stop part of a repositioning cruise? A trans-Atlantic? Enquiring minds need to know! __________________________________________________ We saw her in Cannes Bay when we were doing our Med cruise back in September last year She was anchored fairly close to us, as you can see.. I took this pic of her thru my cabin window... and unless tomorrow's weather is downright foul, I'll be down to the local Port for certain to take pics of Splendor as she makes her way in to Barbados tomorrow! Splendor is on the first leg of her Around-the-horn South American cruise. She is repositioning to Long Beach, CA where she will be based for the near future. Aplmac Posted February 4, 2009 Author #13 Share Posted February 4, 2009 Thanks for the pics! I have 2 months to go. Can I get a fan clock too! :D You see...fanning the clock keep the flames going inside. That's what makes it work. More fanning = more flames = hotter workings, so it goes faster and that 2 months of yours will just whizz along! :D _______________________________________________ A mechanical observation re. Splendor's bow thrusters! I get to see and hear a lot of ships as they enter our Port while I stand there taking photos. They usually hum sweetly along with bow thrusters making splashy, watery sounds As she was doing her spin/rotation manoeuvre this morning Splendor's bow thrusters were in use. Man what a racket! It sounded like an old rattly tractor of sorts and I thought...this ship entered service July last year -she's brand new! So what's with all the clankity-clank noises I was hearing, from 200 yds away? - very odd. I was actually feeling sorry for people in forward lower-level cabins!

You might want to flip it horizontally, so it faces the other way? JayS Posted February 4, 2009 #19 Share Posted February 4, 2009 In 27 days I join her in Valpariso.:D A bit of history in the 1900's when the Corp of Engineers were building the Canal they wanted to make the locks larger than they are now, BUT Congress with its infinite wisdom said no ship could be built as large as the Army was planning and cut funding for the locks which would handle today's large ships. Looks like some thing never change. Panama is now building the larger locks.

Luckysll Posted February 4, 2009 #22 Share Posted February 4, 2009 Very nice shots. There are some people on our Pride Panama Canal cruise that are on board the Splendor. They are doing the whole Miami to LA cruise (49 days), spending a few days in LA and then boarding the Pride back to Miami! Now that's a cruise experience to remember. bp traveler Posted February 4, 2009 #25 Share Posted February 4, 2009 Let me tell you about my experience on the Splendor over New Year's she has the loudest, shakiest thrusters I have ever seen or heard or felt!!! We were in the "L shaped" aft and would have stuff falling all over our room when she docked and so was the dining room - there is something wrong with her I am convinced!!!
