Anyone else just enjoy time in their cabin?

We love spending time on our balcony- that is my favorite part of the cruise, honestly! We sit out there, late at night in our pjs, and chat and look out at the ocean and sky. Since we had our baby it is great because we can sit out there while he was sleeping and not bother him....

 

Like another poster stated, sleeping with the door open (even though it is a no no) is so relaxing. After our first cruise in 2001 I bought a noise machine with waves...it just is not the same though!

I am booked on my very first cruise 3/16/09 on the Norweigan Sky and I have a balcony room on deck 9. Enjoying time on the balcony by myself is what I am most looking forward to. I am not a gambler nor a party person so this to me will the perfect getaway vacation!:)

I have often "mistyped" like that too...but usually catch it before I post!

 

Suzyred-I have spellcheck now-and I foolishly use it-when I type too fast and make a typo- instead of correcting the typo myself-this is the second time I clicked on the correct spelling for correction and I got baloney-I guess I still need to proofread-LOL!

 

The last time I had typed "soembody" meaning of course "somebody," and my spell check corrected it to "some baloney," note to self-PROOFREAD!!!!! or everyone will think I am full of BALONEY!!!!!!

For Jon and me, the destination IS THE SHIP. We look for great deals before we look for the destination. We are never without at least a balcony because we spend so much time out there. He's a napper and I am a reader. What could be better? Even in Alaska, we truly enjoyed our balcony even though last June it was cold. Turned our TV up loud and listened to the naturalist as we cruised into the glacier. After many cruises, we often don't get off the ship in ports we've already visited, because we are there because we love to be on the ship. We've two cruises coming up because we like more than 7 days on a ship - one on NCL to use $1,500 in Bank of America credits (making the cruise cost us only $900 total for the two of us - oh how sorry we are to see the end of the generous BOA credits!!) and the next week on Princess on a duplicate of last June's cruise because we loved our first Princess cruise last year and it was only $850 pp in a wonderful A balcony. We want two weeks of cruising all the time and especially if we're flying all the way to the left coast from Cleveland. Great cruising to you all. It is the best vacation ever!

We love a balcony! Nothing beats it. (especially in Alaska)

Just knowing that you will always have such a quiet and beautiful sight

when you open that door and step out...its sooo worth the money spent.

We are always on our balcony when the ship is pulling out. We cheer the latecomings on who stayed in the bar too long on the pier and need to run like a son-of-a-gun to get back to the ship before it pulls out.:D (me, I'm ALWAYS back on board 2-3 hours before scheduled pull out time. I take NO chances)

I decided to up from a balcony to a mini-suite for this next cruise, but decided to get a penthouse aft instead, and boy are we looking forward to that! I know.....I'll never go back! lol

There is another problem sleeping with the doors open. It happened to me once but I still do it. We were sailing of off Cuba with the doors open and around 2 AM I heard this buzzing in the room. I turned on the light and saw the most fierce bug I have ever seen flying around. At last it landed on a curtain and I caught it in a towel and out the door it went. My wife couldn't go back to sleep for quite a while. I asked around for years as to what kind of bug it was and couldn't get an answer. A few years ago my nephew married a girl from Cuba and I asked her what it was. The answer amazed me. It was a butterfly. So I guess the solution is when you're sailing near land be a little more careful.

We do find as we cruise more, we spend more time inour cabin. There is nothing like dozing off on your balcony with a book on your lap or having a drink before dinner or coffee in the morning out on the balcony. It is great to stay in your pj's and watch the ship pull into a port. We like to room service coffee each morning, take naps, read books, sit out and have drinks and just enjoy the movement and the beauty of the ocean.

We'll go to the Blue Lagoon and get wings and burgers to take out and enjoy them with wine on our balcony. We always book at least a balcony cabin and when we can a suite. In our last suite we took long baths in the whirlpool tub while watching TV and looking out onto the ocean. We have decided we would rather cruise less in better cabins

During the day I rarely leave my suite if we are lucky enough to afford one. Even if we just get a balcony I spend a lot of time in there. And in the Caribbean I rarely get off the ship. Last two cruises I didn't. Usually I do go "out" for dinner and the show and immediately head back to the cabin or suite. I love the peace and quite -- so relaxing! I read, nap, watch the world go by during the day.

On our last cruise we had a deck 10 stern BA with the large balcony and got lounge chairs from our stewart. We barely left the cabin. We had breakfast each morning on the balcony and sat out there day and night. The wake is mesmerizing and it felt like our own private oasis. Other than experience the ports we did little else on the ship and it was heavenly!! We have the same cabin for our next 2 cruises and then we have our first suite (also stern) so I fear we won't even leave for meals on that one!!

Yep! We spend quite a bit of time in our cabin. That's why we booked an AE this time instead of our usual balcony.

I went on a cruise for the first time last June and took a balcony cabin, I will never take an inside or oceanview ever. It was like heaven. You wake up and the sun is coming in and first thing you see is the water. I was lucky all eight day, there was sun. I am going to Bermuda this May and am taking a mini-suite. I hope I get the same weather as last year. Happy sailing everyone.

I love spending time on the balcony, but honestly, did they have to start charging for TV? I used to love going back to the room to just watch a movie in the afternoon, or at night, and it was great. Then came along the GEM with their fancy flatscreen TV's, and unless you enjoy ESPN 24/7, you have to pay to watch a movie. Why can't they just leave well enough alone???? :mad:

my husband and i love 'cabin time.' tho married over 30 years, we still love being together and chatting and reading and just 'being.' we love ordering a light breakfast and lots of coffee and sitting on the balcony in the early morning and watching the sea and reading that day's events and flyers. we subscribe to a daily newspaper through the internet cafe and enjoy that the day it comes or the day after. we are not 'night people' so after leisurely dinner we sometimes again sit on the balcony. we are at sea and love sea. during the day we do some excursions if they involve water [like snorkeling or sailing]. we join the spa for the full trip and enjoy the loungers and the views. because we love sea days, we're taking the sept/october repo on the pearl thru the panama canal. can't wait

We were on the Dream in October and movies and TV shows were still being shown at no charge.

Is this on all the ships.....???

Folks who cruise in an inside cabin miss out on that experience. The beauty of the passing ocean, and the spectacular visuals that each port provides, are what distinguishes a cruise from all other vacations.

 

Don't get me wrong; if you are satisfied with an inside cabin --- more power to you. I am glad that so many people book insides, as it frees up more balconies and suites for those of us who know better.

 

 

We have booked all different kinds of cabins. I don't think it is about "knowing better", it is probably because of budget. It is nice to know everyone can make the best of it.

 

You can definitly get the "beauty of the passing ocean" and the "spectacular visuals" on an early morning walk around the deck., in any of the restaurants, or just relaxing o any deck.....and for these very reasons, the inside cabin people do not spend much time in their cabins.

Our last couple of cruises we had a balcony and my husband said we can never go back.:D I love just sitting or standing out there and watching the water or looking at beautiful Bermuda. There is nothing like it. My dh spends more time out there than I do. He loves to sit out there and read or just snooze.:) I love to wander around the ship, stop at a quiet place and read, go to the shops, go to the casino or just stand out on the deck with a cocktail. But, I also like to sit out on the balcony with my dh and just talk about our day or what we're doing the next day. Just SO relaxing. We also get the spa pass, but I must say, I used it more than my dh. Nothing beats the sound and beauty of the ocean.:D

i'm being a bit sassy but can't a person go anywhere anytime and look out just like you can if your in a balcony???? it does take more of an effort but they won't miss out on anything they don't want to miss seeing just because they are in an iside cabin..........i have booked various types of cabins and inside is fine with me....

 

I didn't see where anyone responded to you so I will. (I might have missed it if they did). Yes, of course you can go to any public deck and see the same views, etc. But there is nothing like having your own private balcony to enjoy the view, the lights, the sunsets, the nothingness but ocean, with your loved one, friends, family, or whoever. We have always sailed in suites, but if push came to shove, I would go on a cruise and not be in a suite, but I will not go on a cruise and not have a balcony.

LOL.. that was so funny. Poor little butterfly.. ehehheheh.

 

If you have a Forward balcony I think there is a ship safety issue with keeping your balcony door open. I believe it is a different type door, more like a bulkhead door and you have to keep it closed. We have never sailed in a Forward cabin, only in Aft, but I think I have read that on CC some where.

 

To the OP. I do have to say I very much enjoy nap time in our cabin. Turning the TV to one of the movies playing, hopefuly an old classic, and just drifting off to sleep next to each other. And we LOVE our time on the balcony. But I have to say just sitting around in the room looking at each other.. talking. etc. isn't our favorite thing. If we are just sitting in the room, I would rather be either on the balcony or some where public people watching or in the casino, etc.

"Knowing better" is not the issue, and I find that remark objectionable!!

DH and I would love to have a balcony for every cruise..... but we're seniors on a very tight budget, and we love cruising... so should we stay at home because we can't afford a balcony???

Yes... we "know better".... we had a balcony one time when we got a free upgrade... and it was wonderful.... but if an taking an inside cabin means we can cruise, we'll happily take one!!

DH loves his space and a larger cabin/suite is the only way he would cruise. We love having people "in" for a few drinks and a more intimate setting--sitting on the balcony with a few friends and having some hors d'oeuvre brought in by the Butler or a complete dinner, enjoying a more peaceful ambiance. We also enjoy the alone time we have, after 38 yrs a nice romantic night on the balcony, watching sunsets, hearing the rhythmic sounds of the water lapping aganist the sides of the ship and gazing at the stars can help ignite that spark back into a flame!!;)
