Hi! we will be sailing on Valor in April and we have lots of questions!:D I have been reading these boards daily, but would love some specific answers! 1) Can my 12 yo ds wear nice dress khaki shorts to the dining room on non-formal nights? 2) which nights are formal nights on Valor Western Itinerary? 3) do you use cash in the casino (quarters from home for slots)? 4) can you really bring a bottle of wine on board? Thanks for any help! Also would be happy to learn any other helpful info you can provide!:D

I'm no pro to cruising, but I was just on the Valor last November and had a great time. 1. I saw a lot of people not dressed on formal night while we were on the cruise, there were even people in jeans in the dining room! So, I don't how I feel on this one, but, I dressed up. 2. Monday night and Friday night were the 2 formal nights 3. You can use cash or your sail and sign card at the casino 4. You can bring a bottle of wine, but they do charge you a corking fee in the dining room.

Have fun!

Thanks for the reply! We will definetaly dress for the formal nights (we really enjoy it and love the pics we have made), but having a 12 yo dress up every night isn't that great! We are mainly wondering if he can wear dress shorts on the non formal nights only? Dh and I plan to be dressy every night (we enjoy it)! :D Thanks for the input!

The rules say no shorts in the dining room, but folks break rules, but I would encourage your daughter to bring a pair of long pants, surely she has some? But you will see everything. We had a lady who wore dresses they looked 3 sizes too small her top was almost falling out of to dinner ever night, but I liked her a lot, so oh well, Im female, so whatever. Never saw so much underwear as on my last cruise, so women dont care if they bra hands out of a sundress in the back, so shorts are no worse. I saw lots of women's bras. Just coincidence I guess.

You can ask for a free laynard in the casino and get a hole punched in your card at the purser's desk. We like to do that.

Have a good time and dont worry, as I said you will see everything. Anything goes these days.

I think nice khaki shorts for a 12 year old will be fine but would have him wear at least a nice polo. Kids can get away with stuff us grown ups can't. We jingle all the way to the casino with our quarters. We save all year long and blow it in about 30 minutes!:D I think you can bring up to 2 bottles of wine. Not sure if that is per person or per cabin.

Enjoy your cruise! I love the Valor!

I am taking 12yr boy/girl twins on the Valor also in April. Thanks for asking the clothes question...I wondered about that too. My question is: Has anyone had their kids use the Circle C club? Did the kids enjoy themselves? I would love mine to feel a little independence on this vacation. Also, how are the balcony cabins set up for 4 people on this ship?:) Thanks.

Hi! we will be sailing on Valor in April and we have lots of questions!:D Sailed her in January this year, great ship and IMO not overly patriotic. I have been reading these boards daily, but would love some specific answers! 1) Can my 12 yo ds wear nice dress khaki shorts to the dining room on non-formal nights? I saw all kinds of dress in the dining room, jeans, t-shirts and non-formal attire on formal nights so I really don't think you would have a problem with that. 2) which nights are formal nights on Valor Western Itinerary? Well this I can't answer for sure since I missed one of them and my memory stinks. Sorry!3) do you use cash in the casino (quarters from home for slots)? Yes you use regular quarters, but if you bring tham from home it adds weight to your luggage;) you can go right to the casino and get change for say a twenty, we always brought down a twenty each night and that was our limit. Oh and you can even just put the $20 in the slot maching and cash out if you want to move around.4) can you really bring a bottle of wine on board? Yes, we each brought one without a problem. Thanks for any help! Also would be happy to learn any other helpful info you can provide!:D
Have a wonderful time.

hi. i have cruised a few times but im no expert thats for sure. when i took my son and daughter, then around 15 and 10, my 10 year old used the carnival kids club but she had a friend with her. i was surprised at myself that i let her do that, cuz i tend to be a paranoid mom, but it was wonderful, really. you sign them in and have to sign them out so its very secure i felt. we were on a much smaller ship, i dont know if that would make a difference to me. i may have been more worried on a larger ship. now they are grown and in college, so its totally different. oh, and all four of us stayed in an inside cabin, so id think a balcony with 4 would be wonderful! you all will have a fabulous time, im sure.that was our first cruise, and it made a cruiser out of us!

Here is Carnival's list of acceptable options for Cruise Casual nights:

Cruise Casual Dining Dress Code: Gentlemen - Sport slacks, khakis, jeans (no cut-offs), dress shorts (long), collared sport shirts; Ladies - Casual dresses, casual skirts or pants and blouses, summer dresses, Capri pants, dress shorts, jeans (no cut-offs). Not permitted in the dining room during the Cruise Casual dinner for ladies and gentlemen: gym shorts, basketball shorts, beach flip-flops, bathing suit attire, cut-off jeans, and sleeveless shirts for men.

When are you cruising in April? We are going the week of the 12th. My kids have done Camp Carnival but will be going to Circle C this time around. They are excited as they had a great time before. This time they are older and will have more freedom on the ship. We are a family of 4 in one cabin. There is a bed for my husband and I, they make the couch into a bed and a bunk comes out of the ceiling. Works out great. In fact my kids are fighting on who gets the bunk bed.

To answer your ques. 1 You basically can wear whatever you want to dinner. The Valor staff are very very laid back. 2 don't know what nights are formal. 3. Yes you can use quarters in the casinos but i wouldn't bring change on board bc I'm sure it'd weigh your luggage down and possibly make it heavy. Just get change in the casino. 4 Yes you can bring wine onboard. Actually if you purchase Rum Runners you can bring whatever liquor you want on board lol.

The Valor's a cool ship you'll have a great time.

Guys, please stop posting guesses and misinformation. When somebody asks a question, it means that they want the CORRECT information. Carnival posts their dress code on their website. It is easy to find (and I copied the cruise casual night details a few posts up).

If you read it you will see that the dress code does NOT say "You basically can wear whatever you want to dinner" or "The rules say no shorts in the dining room, but folks break rules". Both of those responses are just plain WRONG.

Yup, exactly right.

Elegant nights are Monday and Thursday on the Western run. When Valor was doing the Eastern run, the formal nights were Monday and Friday.

Drew? I wish this site had Private Messaging. I've been trying to track you down for days. I saw the pics of you with the sea lions and wanted to know which excursion this was and where? Was this on your Valor cruise?

Seriously!!! How can shorts be a no-no, yet the overabundance of cleavage is acceptable?!? How about something in the guidelines that says, "ladies, please keep the girls covered at dinner"! I'm not a prude in any sense of the word, but even I got a little bit tired of all of the boobage! Not sure my husband did, however. I think the guys must write the dress codes... ;)

Hmmm, ds means darling (or damn, dependimg on mood) son, not daughter.

Please, pretty please make sure your dress shorts are longer than the ones worn by Richard Simmons.

Nothing wrong with seeing a bra. At least they are wearing one. These handy items have been advertised on TV lately, should make it easy to hide your bra straps no matter what top you have on.

LOL, too funny! Ironically I was on the Conquest 12/2004 for the Christmas cruise and we had a lady of similar fashion. She wasn't at our table but every evening the entire side of our dining room would wait to see "how low would it go" every night. Personally I felt she was enjoying herself, probably don't get to wear that type of stuff at home and was taking advantage of the opportunity while she could... either that or she had just "received" them and was still feeling her way on on how much should pop out and when. :p

The family at our table was from the midwest... I think Kansas or Iowa.. anyway this was not only their first cruise but their first "out of the states" vacation. The wife would turn beet red everytime she walked in and her husband turned to look. It was better than a reality tv show.... gosh I love cruising! :D

on our upcoming cruise thursday is a port day, and saturday is a sea day. wouldn't that make saturday the other elegant night? or do they move elegant night so that it's not the last night on the ship when everybody is packed?

1. Buy him a a pair of khaki Dockers. Shorts are not supposed to be worn in the dinning room. Although I have seen people do so.

2. Formal nights are usually on days at sea.

3. cash or sail and sign card.

4. yes you can bring 2 bottles .750. If you bring them to the dinning room there is a corking fee.
