$299 12day Transatlantic cruise.......

Recommended Posts

They have reduced the cruise to 11 days,

raised the price to $399 and

changed the departure date to the 17th of April 2009.

If this is the same cruise, it is still a good deal.:D

However, after working on the price for awhile using some discount codes I did get the price for an inside down to $366 each including port charges.

It is the 17th. 11-day transAtlantic, Miami to London. For some reason I can't get any of the promo codes to work, but best price is $299 of an inside; might be better if you can get a union, military or latitudes discount. Someday we're going to do one of these.

We're on the same cruise... we booked it 3 days ago..... got a military discount... now $263!!!

Unbelievable price.... we were going to London anyway.....it's much cheaper than flying!!!! :)

WOW.. $299.00 PP, $399.00 PP..either way that is amazing for 11 or 12 days onboard a cruise ship. About six months ago CC had a deal on their main page where there was a 20 something day cruise on some cruiseline..(sorry I cant remember which one) but it was basically a circle the globe cruise for like $43.00 PP PD and people were saying that was the lowest circle the globe daily rate they had ever seen. It was an AMAZING deal.

Yeah, RCCI also has one in April - 13 days $399 inside. ($699 for a balcony guarantee, Senior rate)

We want to do a Transatlantic to London in Spring '10. Seeing these two has convinced me not to book until pretty close to sailing unless I see availability drying up.

guess we can say, bad economy, and yes, the airfare is the problem...

I got some NCL questions too

Never been on cruise, globetrecker here but thinking of repositioning cruises here to get to europe and relay on way.

So do these boats have free wifi?

Do you have to pay for the internet cafe?

Is it expensive to use the telephone onboat?

Why do the resturants sound like u have to pay for the meals, i thought they were included.

Like what are the "shows & activities"

I need my skype, tel access. Also, what are activities on these boats? Is it really boring?

How do u get these discounts?

No, the ships don't have free wifi, and yes, you do have to pay for wifi, internet and telephone, and it's VERY expensive. Most cell phones don't work, either.

Do you have to pay for the internet cafe? see above.

Is it expensive to use the telephone onboat? see above

Why do the resturants sound like u have to pay for the meals, i thought they were included.

There are generally two large restaurants, a couple of smaller "cafe's", and snack bars that come "free" with your cruise fare, but other "specialty restaurants" are available only with a surcharge, ranging from $15 to $25 per person per entree. This isn't exclusive to NCL; most of the large mainline cruise companies are doing the same (Princess, HAL, etc.)

You also have to pay for alcohol, bottled water (although the ship's "tap" water is quite good, well filtered), soft drinks, juices (except at breakfast), most specialty coffees, and if you're "into" sports drinks, you'd have to bring those with you.

Like what are the "shows & activities"

This depends on the cruise, the destinations, the cruise line. Think "subdued Las Vegas" in some cases, sometimes lectures about the ports you'll be visiting, or wildlife you might see. And bingo, a casino, an art auction, sometimes a jewelry auction, trivia contests. Sometimes there are movies. There is generally a small library, a game room, and sometimes free Wii games to play. There are pools, hot tubs, a spa, a gym, sometimes a jogging track, other stuff.

I need my skype, tel access. You'll get access...but you'll pay for it. Dearly. Also, what are activities on these boats? Is it really boring?

You already asked this -- see "shows and activities". It could be if you don't like any of those other things, or somehow think you need to be entertained every second and can't find things to do yourself or with your friends.

How do u get these discounts?

You get the discounts by going to the website and looking around -- where you'll find out all this information, and more, and links to possible discounts you may be eligible for, sales, promotions, etc.

Thanks for alll of your answers, for a travelers/backpacker I have to think about if my lifestyle is compatible with this experience. Maybe I could hang with the crew of something:)

What kind of luggage restrictions do these boats usually have, like how many books could I bring?

I usually spend about a month in europe in the spring so this might be a relaxing start to my travels

You can bring aboard almost anything (except liquor) in your checked luggage. Any carry-ons (including backpacks) follow the same rules as airlines -- no "sharp pointy objects", liquids, etc. So no weight limits, no limit to number of bags, or books, or whatever.

As for hanging out with the crew -- maybe...but I don't think so. They're pretty busy and crew quarters are pretty restricted..but you'd have to figure that out on your own.

Thanks, like how does it work with the things, do you have to give "baksheesh" to get anything done? Can u get the rules bent to get more internet time etc... I dont drink but can u bring "juice" on board to bribe the crew?

do u bring the luggage with you or do you have to give it up to the cruise line and they bring it up to your room? If not hanging out with the crew, where are the interesting things going on on these ships? Can you sit in the bridge with the capt? Do these kind of long cruises have interesting programs?

Can't really tell if you are serious or if this is a windup. You can sit on the bridge with the captain if you have paid five figures times five people for a suite. I have never heard of bribing for additional internet time; if it can be done, it would be a new one for me. The crew is not supposed to mingle with passengers and mostly they don't.

as my TA stated, with too many unsold, so we can get another $100 or more off a balcony. So why take an OV. I am using air miles for air. The Officer on Jewel are the greatest. But EPIC goes on sale too in March, and I want a TA on her. A week with no ports to enjoy her & all of Apollo & NCL officials.

For those who may be interested..NCL Jewel.

Apr 12..Miami to London, total cost $300pp after all charges n taxes if you apply the 25% union discount available on thi cruise.Small OBC too.

So is this a better boat? What does a better boat mean, what exactly is better about it?

So u can get outside cabin for same price as this inside prison cell?

So only water is free everything else u must pay for including soda?

Man, a big negative is the lack of cheap internet (something u can find even in the slums of Cairo, Paris, or BA) and I really wonder if the food is as good as the slums of Cairo, Paris or BA (perhaps if the staff got to cook what they wanted?)

Are we talking about two offers here, and is one boat better than the other?

The only problem is the airfare is $1500.00!

I guess that depends where you live.

The trick with TA's is finding the good air fares there are always cheap cabins.

One trick is to plan two TAs one spring and one Fall. and do return air, openjaw is often the same price so you are not stick with the same city but does avoid the high cost 1 way air.

another is to know about cheap 1 way air.

UK to Orlando area can be very cheap, a UK person has got the 17n costa TA for $608(incl tax etc) the flight to Orlando is £190, part of the holiday is a drive down to miami, cheap(£50) flight home from Barcelona.

Flight for the Jewel 28/29 April UK-US is <$400 on airlingus(choice of US gateways).

eg.

London/Gatwick 12:55 Sat 28 Mar Dublin 14:15 Sat 28 Mar EI245

Dublin 16:00 Sat 28 Mar New York 19:40 Sat 28 Mar EI109

Price for 1 AdultPrices are shown in Pounds Sterling

From London/Gatwick To New York

Fare 131.53

Taxes and Charges 89.09

Flight Total 220.62

Total Price: GBP 220.62

I can tell you are new to cruising as well as CruiseCritic.com.

First a cruise ship is what we pay to sail on. Being CruiseCritic, we plan a Meet & Greet for everyone on our cruise with us. At th at meeting we meet the Captain & officers such as Cruise Director, Hotel Director, Food & Beverage Director, etc. The rest of the cruise you can be contacted about a new activity that was not announced previously, such as a Meet the Captain at the theatre, since nothing major happening so he gets an hour for folks to ask questions. Even going for a walk at a port, and 2 are getting off the ship for a break so we had a great time teamed up with them since they knew places to go to from previous stops.

Ships are different. Dawn & Jewel have a crew that interchanges between the 2 ships. We had a cruise on Jewel a week after she was flooded with ill folks. They had to disinfect 100% of the ship for the new cruise from the time the people left the ship til we boarded late. A staff that was exhausted & no help other than a few from Dawn that came to be the Customer Service desk, reservations, and even a new Captain half way thru. We felt for these folks.

2 main dining rooms per ship with free food. A great menu that gives you plenty to choose from. The food stations, formerly called a buffet, is there also for folks who want to choose their meal. Free cappucino, latte & espresso at both. Iced tea (unsweetened), coffee, hot tea, & breakfast juice is free as is milk.

If you live on soda aka pop, bring it or buy it at ports. $2 each is a bit steep onboard. But if you live on it then you can buy a soda card to get nonstop soda from bars by the glass not cans.

As far as free Net access, that is a private company that has the satelitte on the ship to give Net access, cell service, etc to the cruisers. So you are paying their rate.

Any other questions, just ask.

So is this a better boat? What does a better boat mean, what exactly is better about it?

That comment made me :). I think you might be right and someone is pulling our chain.

Phil

Thanks. Glad for the smile. Also glad that being from the UK you know what a windup is.

On a recent TA, a couple of female Travel Agents allegedly DID get to sit on the bridge with the Captain while leaving a port. On the same trip, I got to sit at "the Captains Table" where we chatted for about half an hour about nothing, right across the atrium from the Blue Lagoon. But my bridge visit was with 30 other people, way out at sea.

HOWEVER --- there WAS once a time, leaving Bermuda .........
