UK travellers re fuel supplement

Has anyone who booked cruises before Dec managed to get fuel supplement removed.Phoned RCI today as we have 3 inside cabins booked on Voyager for July and am not happy to pay fuel supplement that now doesn't exist and get on board credit.I was given number to ring customer service on Mon and was told I had to speak with them.Has anyone managed to get this removed.I know we will spend far more on board but I resent giving RCI £210 for 8weeks before we travel -its actually 11 weeks as travel agent takes it earlier to ensure payment made on time to RCI .They will get it out of us by what we will spend on board but should not be done in this way.

I am sure I have read on here that someone complained so persistantly that they removed it.

I am going to just use mine up booking a wine package as soon as I board rather than prepaying.

Whilst I don't agree with the way it has been done, and some other things I have experienced with RCI on my first ever cruise, I am not going to let an exchange rate dif or approx $30 spoil a €4000 holiday. I don't want the stress :)

Sorry, I can't help. I am in the same situation and would like to know the answer to this to. I am booked with a TA though so I would like to know RCI's stance before I go trying to get my supplement removed. I don't wan't OBC. We are not big spenders, don't like the casino, drink very little, actually love the free lemonade and will book my excursions before I sail.

For me it is the principle that UK customers are being treated differently as this hasn't happened to USA customers.I resent giving my hard earned money 11 weeks early and then get it back as OBC.We will spend alot more money but some people don't spend that much money and it is wrong to take it off us before when it is unnecessary.Customers booking now are not charged it.

You're absolutely right but I find that once companies get your dough it's hard to get it back and I'm rather lazy..

I'm more inclined not to give companies who mess me around a second chance and I'm afraid RCI seem to fall into that category. There are plenty more boats in the sea :D

I'm not going to get worked up about it though and it's not going to spoil my holiday.

Fuel Supplement Information

December 5, 2008, Update

We have suspended our fuel supplement for Royal Caribbean International sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009, anywhere in the world.

The decision reflects the recently sustained lower price of fuel.

Effective Monday, December 8, guests making new bookings for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009, will not be charged the fuel supplement.

Guests already booked on sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009, will receive a refund of any fuel supplement paid, as follows:

Guests with existing bookings for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009, and who are now paid in full, will have the supplement automatically refunded to them in the form of an onboard credit during their sailing.

Guests with existing bookings for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009, and who are not yet paid in full, will have the supplement automatically removed from their outstanding balance.

We reserve the right to reinstate fuel supplement charges if the price of West Texas Intermediate fuel exceeds $65 per barrel, on the quarterly milestone dates mentioned in the company's October 24, 2008, press release.

We announced on October 24, 2008, that no fuel supplement would be charged for new bookings made on or after November 10, 2008, for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2010, unless there is an upturn in fuel prices. Today's announcement does not affect those previous terms.

October 24, 2008, Update

Our fuel supplement will no longer apply to new Royal Caribbean International bookings made on or after November 10, 2008, anywhere in the world, for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2010.

This decision takes into consideration the recent reductions in global fuel prices. We have also established specific guidelines that will determine whether fuel supplement refunds will be provided for sailings that begin in 2009 and later, which were booked prior to November 10, 2008, if fuel prices remain below a specific price threshold.

For 2009 sailings and 2010 sailings booked before November 10, 2008, we will determine on a quarterly basis whether fuel supplements will be refunded. Refunds, in the form of an onboard credit, will be provided if the closing price of West Texas Intermediate fuel is $65 or less, at the closing time of the New York Mercantile Exchange, two weeks prior to the beginning of the upcoming calendar quarter. When those conditions are met, an onboard credit will be provided to all guests on sailings that begin during the upcoming calendar quarter.

The dates on which the price of West Texas Intermediate fuel will be measured, and the quarters during which refunds could apply are:

We will continue to closely monitor the movement of global fuel prices and recognize that an upturn in those prices could necessitate the reinstatement of a fuel supplement.

Fuel Supplement Information

December 18, 2008, Update

Further to our communication dated the 5th December 2008 regarding the suspension of the fuel supplement for all Royal Caribbean International sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009; please be advised of the following important information:

Please note that ALL guests with existing bookings for sailings that depart on or after January 1, 2009, will now have the supplement automatically refunded to them in the form of an onboard credit during their sailing. Please be aware that this applies to both paid and unpaid bookings, the original holiday price therefore remains unchanged.

Please note that this decision has been made to facilitate a smoother reimbursement process for both our guests and trade partners.

RCCL UK wont remove your FS as you are booked through a TA, what you need to do is ask your TA to speak with OSU at RCCL UK and say you are not happy with the FS being on your boking and you wish it to be removed. If TA complains enough you might be lucky and get it removed.

Ok, thanks for that. Makes no difference though between US and UK, the fs is given back as a OBC.

The difference is mainly the fact that UK Cruisers even when only paid deposit get the FS back as OBC ..unlike others who get it back as OBC only because they have made final payment.

Yes it can be removed ...others have posted on other UK threads that they have got it removed also. "Ask and you shall recieve" comes to mind ;) But not many UK Cruisers know about this site and know whats what with regard to the FS-OBC.

Just updating my situation regarding fuel supplement and OBC.I phoned RCI this morning and explained I was unhappy with the situation but found the girl I was speaking to quite rude and not a great representative for her employers.Because I booked with a travel agent she would not deal with my complaint.I then phoned the travel agent who advised me to send her an email explaining my issues and she then passed this on to RCI.My travel agent then followed this up this afternoon with a phone call and I have been told that the fuel supplement has now been deducted so a little time spent on this has been successful.Hope if anyone else who feels the same and tries to get it removed is also successive.

Our FS has been removed from our balance for our July cruise.....as Liz has posted...."ask and you shall receive";)....just happened to mention it on a phone call to RCI UK a few days ago when I was ringing on another matter and was told it was no problem to get it removed and received an email confirmimg shortly after the call.

I had our fuel surcharge removed before paying our final balance - but it took a lot of phone calls to our on line travel agent and also to RCCL.

Was not easy but worth it in the end. It can be done if you persevere and don't take 'no' for an answer.

we didn't realise we were getting it back until we phoned up to add our daughter to our cabin, but as we got £400 each off as a price drop, I am not going to complain too loud in case they come back and say it was a mistake!

I understand the complaint, but we spend quite a lot onboard and don't have a problem with it - but maybe I'll wait and see what the pound does against the dollar before we sail in August...

I've posted on earlier threads that I've had the fuel supplement removed from our final balance. We have booked direct with RCCL, so can't comment on bookings through TAs.... I simply e-mailed them and politely pointed out that I wasn't happy to pay it up front and then get it back as obc......and they replied very promptly telling me it had been removed.
