Cancellation question

Hi, everyone,

 

We are hoping that it won't come to this, but if we have to cancel our cruise (scheduled for 1/2010), can anyone tell us what the penalty might be? It's on Royal Caribbean. Thanks.

If you cancel before final payment (usually 75 days before sailing), the cruise line will not charge you any fee. If you booked thru a TA, they may charge a fee. Most do not, but some do.

You should be within the cancellation window....call RCI and make sure!

You can see your penalties on the RCI website. They are different depending on how many nights your cruise is. (At least ours is.)

I agree, but one caveat (doesn't seem applicable to RCI). Recently Carnival has introduced "Early Saver" fares with non-refundable deposits. The face of the industry is changing, and it's well-advised to monitor those changes and keep track of the ones which might affect you.

If your cruise is booked direct with RCI, there should be no cancelation penalties. If booked through an agency online or brick and mortar, that may not be the case. Some of them do charge a cancelation fee, you would have to check the fine print of your paperwork or ask directly to find out.

 

The last online agency we used was going to charge us a $75 fee per person to cancel (we wanted to be moved to a group). We tried reasoning with them, having a 3 way call with RCI, we hadn't intended to reserve with them. It just happened that we made the ressie while onboard another cruise and thought we could move our ressie to the group we wanted. We ended up not canceling, but not ever making another reservation with this agency. Their loss, we had used them for several years prior and now have booked 5 cruises without going back to them :rolleyes:
