Too Hot

Looking to sail Regent in the Med either July & August ( school holidays) and wondered if it was just too hot.

Is it possible to go on tours in the heat and for it to be enjoyable.

Also is there plenty of outside shade on board and is the temperature in the ship adequately controlled.

May need to odd beer to keep cool.

Thanks

we're going on 1st Aug on indepedance to the italian maeditranian. I can't stand the heat, but hubby is a lollipop man  and we can only go in the school holidays. We intend to do 2 tours so we are back on the ship before 1 and the rest we will go ashore in port till about 1 o'clock before the intense heat

Get the cruise itinerary you are interested in then go to:

wunderground.com

Punch in the city and country you are going to visit.

After you have located the appropriate city find the "History & Almanac" section for that city. It is usually located on the left side of the page about mid page. Change the date to month you are going and then adjust for the year and you will have a rough idea as to what the temperature, rainfall, dew point etc. was for the time period. You can gather as much info as you want.

However, remember that weather is something you can not control.

July and August are usually the hottest months of the year in the Mediterranean. Temperatures well over 30C (I think that is around 85F?) and sometimes, especially in Greece, into the 40's, which would make it around 100F. However it is also dry. Mediterranean climate is defined as "winter rain summer drought" and people can usually tolerate higher temperatures when the humidity is low. The heat, however, is why siestas are so popular in the region! The ship will be Air conditioned. If the heat gets to you, then you can always come back on board and cool off. You can also sleep in the "coolth", as it were!

Best thing if you don't care for heat is to go on morning excursions that will get you back on board for lunch. 3pm is usually the hottest time of the day.

Yes, depending on the ports of course, it will be hot. Trekking around Greek ruins or Rome will be tougher, and of course it's also peak tourist season, so crowds will be larger. Often these itineraries are very port intensive and can be tiring, so trips that include air conditioned buses to get you places would be good. Of course the ship is climate controlled, and usually when you're at sea there's a nice breeze. There's ample shade on the pool deck of the two ships I've been on (Voyager & Navigator.)

We've been lucky enough to do this part of the world at the end of May--that's hot enough for me.
