October to Late?

Recommended Posts

Depends what "too cool" is to you. Check weather sites like weather.com for average highs and lows for the ports on your cruise. October is generally considered one of the best months to cruise in the Med because you don't have the very hot summer temps and it's somewhat less crowded than peak season (July and August).

We were in Venice for a week last October and the weather was great. While the crowds may be down over summertime crowds, according to Venetians, October is their busiest month. It's still far from cold there, just take a lightweight jacket when in port. We always take waterproof windbreakers, because you never know about rain. Have a wonderful cruise.

We were on a cruise (Italy/Croatia) in October in about the same time frame. Daytime temps were mostly in low to mid/upper 70s. Sunny almost everyday the entire three weeks we were there. Dropped to the mid 60s in the evenings. Light jacket weather. Overall it was quite pleasant and enjoyable.

Your dates should be good, even for Venice. We went Oct 17-29 '08. We had beautiful weather until the 28th when it decided to rain in Venice. And it only got worse into November with lots of flooding. You can do a goodgle search for the floods in Venice.

While it wasn't sunbathing weather, we wore light raincoats in the morning, but usually shed them by around 10:00 am and were just in our shirt sleeves the rest of the day.

Until last year, all of our European vacations were in October, and it absolutely has been a fantastic time to travel with very comfortable temperatures for our sightseeing, and much less tourist crowds at major tourist sites.
