There is a Diamond lounge and they have beverages and petit fours. When it's time to board they will escort you first to embarkation. I don't see why it would change from how they did it for the Vision now that it's the Mariner. San Pedro is an easy port to navigate and plenty of close outdoor parking.

PRN thanks for the quick feed back...we won't be driving to the pier...flying into to lax the day before and doing a pre-nite at the holiday inn by the pier...will take cab or shuttle from the hotel on sunday morning...

There is such a waiting room at the pier where the MONARCH docked, but I believe that the Mariner is using a different pier.

I think that we will have to wait to hear from the "new sailors" of the Mariner before we will know.

When we boarded last Thursday, they had an area cordoned off for employees who were boarding the ship. There were quite a few of them, I'd say around 75-100 people waiting. This area was to the left of the check-in counters in the newer terminal, kind of like a large alcove.

I'm wondering if this won't be the area where they would put the Diamond/Suite lounge area? You're correct, we won't know until Mariner cruisers come back and report.

We were on the same Pre-Inaugural sailing last Thursday as Happy Ks...

Nothing was set up that I saw for that sailing, but we really didn't have a lot of time to know...and they may have treated that special sailing differently anyway...

The Mariner docked at a different terminal than the one we'd always used in the past...When you look at photos of the World Cruise Center, you'll notice there is a dock for one ship on a small offshoot of the main channel over to the left, nearer to the terminus of the Vincent Thomas Bridge...this is where Royal Caribbean always USED TO dock...To the right, and perpindicular to the other dock and terminal, there is another dock right on the main channel...a seperate and smaller terminal building fronts this one...THIS is where the Mariner was docked...

I imagine the Mariner is too large to maneuver into the offshoot channel...I heard they had to throw it into reverse and "back" it up the main channel into this dock...since it would be too big to turn around inside this part of the harbor...

We'll have to wait and see I guess..

I have sailed out of Los Angeles about 5 times now. The terminal you are talking about I kind of feared Mariner was using, it is our least favorite. It has always appeared to us over the years as more a temporary structure.

Have a cruising friend leaving on Mariner today, when she returns will ask her. She normally cruises Celebrity.

A personal problem I have found with this terminal is you end up lining up outside for long periods of time. That is just miserable in the summer when it is hot. Will be interesting to hear any reports about that during this first season with Mariner on the West Coast.

I don't really pay close attention to detail, but the terminal Mariner used is definitely not a temporary structure. We were not outside at all and there was plenty of seating. I think they are still working on it, but I don't think there is any way Mariner could tie up where Monarch used to.

They don't have permanent gangways built as yet, those were temporary, there are elevators and escalators leading up to the gangway area, though.

I know critterchick sails out of the Port of Los Angeles a lot more than the rest of us and I know for certain she pays more attention to details than I do. Hopefully she, or someone else can fill in some more information.

I know that we were TOLD that when we came to L.A., we were docking at "Piers 91 & 92". I really didn't notice. We went down a gangway and directly into a building, like a giant garage or warehouse. I know that our luggage was in this large open space, just lined up on the floor. It was a mess.

I just back from spending the day onboard the Mariner visiting some crew friends and the ship is docked at Berth 91/92 which is the terminal normally used by NCL and Princess. RCCL previously used the terminal at Berth 93 then the Monarch/Vision were here, but the Mariner will not fit there.

The current terminal at Berth 91/92 is very small and a bit primative compared to Berth 93. It's basically, one big (not that big) waiting area and is less efficient at handling the crowds than the other terminal.

It's important to note, the terminal does not open for check in until 10:30am, so if you get there before then, expect to have to wait outside.

I got onboard the ship around 10:45am and there was an announcement to the crew that boarding would begin at 11:15am so if you got there around 10:30-11:00am you should have a minimal wait. Today's cruise had 3200 passengers booked and I never really saw much of a line waiting to get onboard while I was outside waiting for the ganway to open. I'm not sure how bad the line was to get onboard as I boarded via the crew ganway on deck 1 and left the same way.

I'll be going back to the ship again next Sunday, so if you have a specific question, I'll be happy to see if I can get you an answer.
