Fairbanks Pre-Tour Hotel ?

We will be flying into Fairbanks August 09 and our HAL tour starts on the 10th. To book a pre-night with HAL will be around $130 PER PERSON :( -- granted it would be the most convenient. Do any of you have better suggestions for a more reasonable option perhaps close to the Westmark or at least close to the airport with free shuttle service so we can transfer our bags, etc?

Book direct??? How do the prices compare?? Frankly with coming in early, and if you want to do any touring, a car is necessary- then you can stay elsewhere and then just meet up with your tour.

Hotel rooms run around $150+ a night in the summer in Fairbanks. Try Extended Stay Deluxe, Alpine, or River's Edge near the airport, or HI Express or the new Marriot that opens in June on the other side of town in the box store ghetto.

I just checked expedia, and if you book the Westmark on your own, you can get a room for 119+taxes That's alot cheaper than if you booked thru HAL.

The Westmark is owned by HAL and use for most if not all of the land tours.
