What is Some GREAT advice for a new Cruiser on RCL Voyager of the Seas?

Recommended Posts

Well I have cruised before but never with Royal. I am also taking some newbies along for the week journey. Since I am new to Royal I would like some advice from you avid RCL cruisers especially those who have sailed the Voyager or a Voyager Class ship. We are a group of girls...oh and one is pregnant. Any information would be helpful. We also have a Large Interior and Promenade Stateroom (FWD). Thanks guys.:D

First and foremost - ENJOY! Voyager class ships have a lot to offer. Things we love

1. Promenade - nice to stroll through and see what is going on. The little cafe (and WJ's) has the best Sugar Free Peanut Butter cookies ever, actually all the cookies are wonderful.

2. Don't miss the parades - very, very colorful. Get to the promenade early enough to find a good place to sit/stand. They are awesome.

3. Street party - one night there will be a 70's dance party. Very very fun. Don't miss it.

4. Ice Show - always good. We go every time we are on a ship that has the ice shows.

5. Quest - can't tell you what it is, but DON'T miss it. It is hilarious

6. Schooner's Bar. By far our favorite bar on any and all Royal ships.

7. Viking Crown Lounge - fantastic views from here. We love sitting up there late at night having a drink and watching the world go by.

8. Gym - I am a gym rat, so this is very important to me. They have fabulous gyms on these ships.

could go on and on, service, staff, food, we think it is all wonderful.

We have been on both Voyager and Explorer. They are really fantastic ships. Best advice is just to have a lot of fun. Don't worry about anything that won't make/break your vacation. There is so much to do/see or if you are like me - do nothing. I lay by the pool and relax with cold drinks and my book.

Give the shows a try, even things that maybe don't sound like something you're into -- people who've cruised all the lines often say that the quality of the nightly shows is one area where RC excels.

Catch the ice show! It's a lot better than you'd think an ice show in a ship could be. You'll want to get tickets, which are free; the cruise compass will announce when they're available.

Don't miss The Quest. It's hard to explain, it's for adults and you have to see it / do it once.

If you're thinking of doing some ship excursions, consider looking at the options online and booking them now/early -- usually, a few of the most popular choices will sell out by the time the ship sails.

Check out Derek Lewis, entertainer in the pub on the Promenade. Lots of fun! There is a suana and a steam room at no charge inside the women's locker room in the gym. If you don't want the hassle of checking out beach towels by the pool, (and I don't) just take beach towels out of the gym locker room. The champagne bar and the pub are both non-smoking on Voyager. If you like coconut, do NOT miss the coconut cookies in either the Windjammmer buffet or the Promenade Cafe. There is no charge for food, coffee, tea or hot chocolate at the Promenade Cafe. As a previous poster said, do check out the views from the Crown and Anchor lounge area way up on the 14th deck. Only the elevators on the port side of the ship go up past deck 12. And be sure to look into the Peek-a-Boo Bridge on deck 11 in front of the gym.

Well I am pregnant so I dont think I will be using the sauna or steam room (too dangerous) but it is nice to know. I am glad that some areas are non smoking. Are these the only areas that are non smoking? Surely smoking is not permited in the dining rooms and cabins (if so I will need some air freshener lol). At least I can go to the Champagne Bar but I wont be drinking:)

No smoking in any dining area; theater and all cabins are non-smoking. There are designated smoking areas in other lounges and bars and the casino allows smoking. On our Jan. cruise, the casino was non-smoking the first formal night.

Don't miss Kareoke (sp?) Idol on one of the last nights. This was a lot of fun and a few of the contestants were really good. Also, get tickets to the Ice Show - check the Cruise Compass to see when they are being given out (when and at what time they are being given out). Get there about 1/2 hour before they start to give out the tickets because the line gets really long quickly. Have a blast!

Just got off the Voyager this past Sunday. The casino was non-smoking after 6:30 pm one night. It was Mon or Tues night...who keeps track when you're on vacation! Also, all the outer decks are non-smoking on the port side (left side when facing forward).

There's only about 20-30 minutes between when the Muster Drill ends and when the ship starts to pull away from the dock. So if you don't want to miss sailaway, toss your life preservers in the room and head right back up.

If you want to go to the very front of the ship, go outside on deck 4, walk all the way forward and then go up the steps. It's a really cool spot, but it can get VERY windy at times.
