CRUISERSWITHKIDS Posted March 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted March 6, 2009 MAYBE THIS HAS BEEN ASKED ON HERE BEFORE BUT I'M UNABLE TO FIND IT. WE ARE FLYING INTO VANCOUVER THE NIGHT BEFORE AND PLANNING ON TAKING A TAXI TO OUR MOTEL. DO WE NEED TO EXCHANGE SOME MONEY FOR CAD OR DO THEY ACCEPT USD?
Putterdude Posted March 6, 2009 #2 Share Posted March 6, 2009 This is a question that does get asked very often but the answer is, yes, US currency is widely accepted in Vancouver and Victoria. It is done so as a courtesy to our American guests, however there is a good 20 cent difference between our dollars (in your favour) right now and you will likely only get about 10 cents from a cabby or in a stores or restaurants; you will also get your change in CDN. Trailblazer99 Posted March 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted March 6, 2009 If a taxi is the only thing you want Canadian $ for, use your credit card - if you want to tip, you can do it with either the card or US cash.
neecee23 Posted March 6, 2009 #4 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Just get some cash from an ATM at the airport to pay for incidentals, not expensive, exchange rate is favorable and the Canadians will appreciate it.
Budget Queen Posted March 6, 2009 #5 Share Posted March 6, 2009 Taxis take credit cards and many businesses take US cash, do expect a poor exchange. I go to Ca frequently and use plenty of Ca funds, so no problem for me, if I overdo it at an ATM. BUT do not expect the US to take the left over Ca money. :)
