This ship is too big!!!

I agree with the OP, I think the Freedom class will be the largest I will want to sail on. The Oasis is just too big, with too many people.

Since you feel that you would be overwhelmed on a ship this big, it's great that you are free to pick from other options like the much smaller Freedom of the Seas. Enjoy your cruise in May on the small ship and underwhelming Freedom of the Seas.

Bottom line is that I've been told the Oasis is 90%+ booked through August of 2010. Now booked and paid for are two different things, I'll grat you, but... it cetatinly looks like somebody out there is happy to sail on the Oasis... I know we are!

Time marches on and with that things get "bigger & better"

Just look at Vegas, its sure is not my Fathers Vegas. Some people like the big flashy casinos, I preferred it when it was smaller and you could walk from one side of the casino to the other without a potty break.

Shopping malls are always getting bigger with more family venues.

Highways are always under construction to make them wider.

The world is a much bigger place than it was 20 yrs ago. Technology is moving by leaps and bounds.

I sailed on the Sun Viking that had just over 700 passengers and no TV's in the rooms, it was a wonderful little ship and one of my favorite cruise experiences, but I still look forward to each new ship with all the new bells and whistles. I just wish I had the time & $$ to sail on all of them.

The Oasis is huge, but it is also raising the bar for cruising. When the Song of America came out with two pools people scoffed and said why would you need two pools? The Nordic Prince had a closet sized gym with two bikes and a one old fasioned universal machine. Then came the full sized gyms with all the newest in exercise equiptment, people scoffed and said who wants to go on a cruise to workout?

So right now the "new " stuff on Oasis seem so over the top. But in a few years it will be the norm, and we will be "wow"ed by some new fangled thing on a newer bigger and better ship.

Sure most people sail the bigger ships since the smaller ones have gone by the way side over the years but I'd rather choose the smaller ones if there were a choice to be made. We haven sailed RCI in a number of years & might be tempted to see what's all about when the price is right. I think they'll be crowded for a while until the newness wears off & they'll be begging for pax to fill the cabins to stay afloat. We'll be waiting for those big discounts.;)

this is the same, lame scenario that was debated prior to the debut of the voyager of the seas....and here we are 5 voyager class ships and 3 freedom class ships later! all of which have MORE than proven how successful big ships have become....

I remember reading a cruise writer's review of their experience on a 3,000 passenger ship. He wrote about how he met a nice couple the first day.....and never saw them again the whole cruise....too many people.

The Oasis will be this kind of ship.....meet somebody nice and never see them again among the 5,400 passengers......;)

This scenario is played out in everyday life....meeting nice people in line @ the bank, grocery store, etc. and never seeing these people again in life UNLESS you take the opportunity to exchange information/phone numbers, etc.

Sometimes not running into the same person(s) could be a blessing in disguise. LOL:D

I understand what the OP is saying but I'm looking forward to cruising Oasis next year. Our last four cruises have been aboard smaller ships (Empress and Norwegian Majesty) where you felt motion in the ocean and had a sense one was "really cruising."

Since we've visited over two dozen Caribbean islands, we think it's time for us to enjoy a ship that is a destination in itself. ;)

It's true that people get accustomed to the large ships but if there were a choice between large or small I'll pick the smaller ship any day. :D

The Empress was one of my first cruises too. I had a great time on that ship. And man do I agree....you certainly felt the ocean on a ship that size. LOL We had a couple really rough nights but other than that...a GREAT cruise. :D

The Radiance class ships are definitely high on my list....so much glass giving you great ocean views almost everywhere on the ship. Really, really nice.:D

I agree. I remember reading right here on CC that the Voyager class would never make it. Too big, too many people and the novelty would wear out. The Oasis will be a big hit just like the Voyager and Freedom. RCI will bring in many new first time cruisers who had never thought about taking a vacation at sea. RCI has now brought the land resort to the high seas. I'm betting that as soon as the ecomony picks back up you will see the Carnival Corporation bringing on the Pinnacle class to either the Carnival or Princess brand.

hey cruisingator!:) how have u been?

the thing that cracks me up is how other cruise lines are "stealing" RCI's innovations and incorporating them onto their ships (i.e., NCL with the rock walls, Carnival Dream will have it's version of cantilivered whirlpools, the centrum lobby which was created when the Sovereign of the Seas made it's debut, the flow riders Carnival has at it's Grand Turk stop). :D:D

Doing good Tyron.

Very true about the other cruise lines. It seems that RCI is the cruise line that takes chances with bold innovations that others won't try. I can't wait to see Oasis.

We've sailed on all sizes of ships. Have not had a bad cruise yet. And have made new friends on all of them. Sea our signature below.

We have Oasis booked for the 12/1 4 day. We have no problem sailing on this largest ever cruise ship.

Saying that, we will have a wonderful cruise, again make new friends, and help to usher in a new era in cruising.

Sea you all December 1!

I agree...I've met some lifelong friends thru these boards and cruising. It'll be a pleasure meeting as many of my fellow 12/1 Oasis cruisers as possible.:)

NOBODY else looks at this ship and thinks that they are overdoing it? Why wouldi want to go underway and shop the entire time..or be in an enviroment where i feel like i need to be clothed entirely....zipline?

i think these huge ships are taking away from real cruising

i think of Wall-E when i see new updates about this ship

Check the cabin availability on the Oasis, I think the proof is in the pudding so to speak:p

We just returned from an 11 day cruise on Jewel of the Seas, a Radiance class ship. This was our first cruise on this class ship. We had done both Voyager and Freedom class before. My wife and I agree that we prefer the larger ships. This is why we are booked on Oasis.

Im sorry but I have to agree with the original poster, these ships are getting too big for my liking and that is purely on a safety matter that you have not even looked at.....Yes.....what if.......

Judging from one of the posters the itinaries looks like its just a sailing cruise and not a port cruise this will im sure change many of your views being stuck at sea for many a day. Before you start having a go at me I have undertaken many of these types of cruises during my life, both civilisan and military and they can be challenging to say the least for many not used to it.

My 'what if' looks on the safety aspect of a rescue when needed and with 18 yrs experience I know what im on about and a ship of this size worries me greatly !

Having done a cruise from Hawaii which included 4 straight sea days, I say yay to sea/ship days! They were fun days and considering they were on the Legend a MUCH smaller ship, and any of the days were cold and windy and yet we had plenty to do.

no doubt that they are pushing the limits of what a ship is...but you can make what you want of it. Undoubtedly there will still be many places on the ship that will be peaceful and relaxing...and you can skip things like ziplining if they dont appeal to you...or even more...elect to sail on another ship

Although we are booked on Oasis we are going with an open mind. The muster drill on Liberty really opened our eyes as to how, in an emergency, you really wouldnt stand a chance and so the sheer size of Oasis is petrifying.

I personally don't think it is taking away from cruising, I feel it is adding some new, exciting venues for people to try. More in the way of family activities, and also innovative ways for all members of the family to enjoy this magnificent ship.

No, I don't want to shop all the time. There is a flowrider to try, a zipline, a carousel to ride (yes, at 47, I still do!) A Park to walk through. Pools to splash around in.Shows to see, a comedy club to go to, many, many activities of all sorts.

I have to agree with Jaxson. I'm so amazed by these big ships. I think it's great that they now offer so much. My favorite parts of this ship are the Aqua Theatre and the zip line. I mean I feel like I don't even have to get off of the ship on Oasis of the Seas. There is so much to do that I don't even need to do excursions. That means I save money, which makes me a happy camper.:D

DH & I sailed on the LOS last May (08). We had a wonderful time, the ship had just reached it's end of the inagural year on our cruise. DH & I will now be sailing on the OOS on 1/2/10...and we can't wait. We enjoy the fun and innovations of new ships.

I would say that the OOS would be like no other cruise ship yet, so starting with OOS for the first RCL, will ceartinly leave you with high expectations, which I'm confident other RCL ships will fufill such expectations. However you must consider, the OOS pricing is set rather high in comparison to the OOS for the first 8 months of sailing (or so I've heard).

What's the price difference? The group cruise that's going in September is $846 for an inside cabin. I think that's great!!!!
