Platinum perks

Yes, we currently have 18 in the closet....and gave another 12 away during the year.....

15 cruises in a row they provide a pair of thermos bottles, this is cool!

Do you blog with John Heald? Ask him what is up with this.

Blooger doesn't look right, maybe it is Blogger?

I'm sorry to sound ungrateful, and I admit I'm not aware of the other programs offered by other cruise lines, but I'm not impressed by the Platinum offerings. The VIP treatment is given when you book a Suite, as well as to Platinum guests and we typically do book suites when we travel.

Booking a Suite will not get you all the Platinum Perks, only priority embarkation. If you have 10 Carnival Cruises and book a suite, you'll receive all of the Platiinum Perks.

True but for me, the most valuable "perk" for platinum would be priority embarkation, which I get with my suites; the other "perks" just doesn't appeal much to me, although I'll probably reach Platinum in a year or two simply because I love cruising Carnival.

If only one person in the cabin is platinum, do both people staying in the same cabin get the platinum perks?

Kinda.

They will be able to on and off the ship with the Plat person. And tender.

They can eat the goodies delivered to your cabin.

They can put their laundry in the bag.

The won't get a free tournament pass.

They won't get the gift.

Etc.

WOW!

That's all I have to say about that... :D

Tom

Hey...you are one to talk.

You are the one that gave me the idea to book 10 cruises in a 12 month period to begin with!!!!!!!

Our last cruise was on the Fantasy last month on the Blogger's Cruise.

We had a blast....a little overwhelming...but a blast.

We are just back from 49 days on The Splendor. Believe me.... the free laundry was a great perk!!!!!

You didn't sound ungrateful to me. :)I've often thought this myself as I only use a limited amount of the "perks" - laundry, VIP check-in and debarkation, and the Platinum line (once) at the Pursers desk. I'm quite happy that Carnival at least acknowledges my past loyalty to them with a PLATINUM card and the few perks I take advantage of.

However, Carnival does offer Past Guest Specials now and then. I cruise last minute so don't really know if they're worth anything as that's seldom a consideration when they're cutting down to the bone and trying to fill the ship when I book. I also don't think there is enough of a PROFIT MARGIN to allow for a 10% reduction in fares for PLATINUM cruisers NOW and the hordes certain to come in a short time.:D

Lucky you . . . I envy you . . . I guess FREE LAUNDRY would almost have to be a necessity on a 7-weeker ! ! :D

Will be looking for a LOOOONNNNNNNGGGG Review. :)

In priority embarcation...if you are waiting to board and the ship is still not ready for anyone to board, do they have free drinks (like sparkling wine or booze) for you while you wait?

I read that they offer $5 free arcade tokens to kids. I have two kids who are not platinum, but I am. Will they still give them the tokens?

As for priority tendering, does that mean also priority to get back to the ship? I have seen some huge tender lines in Belize and Half Moon Cay and would love a bump to the front.

Although i've read about someone on these boards that did flash their plat card and got moved to the front. It may or may not work for you. I don't flash my card around like that.

hth!

Thank you all for responding to my question re: the laundry. I know it will help me to pack less. I wanted to add about discounts. Not that we are close, but at 25 cruises you get 25% off a cruise, 50=50% and 100= 100%. Not sure if 75 was in there, but we will be in wheelchairs by then...lol...

That is a nice one, makes getting on the ship hassle free. I wish the perks were transferrable to their sister lines, Princess, HAL, etc... But I'll take what they give. :)

I am going to have to contact carnival, because they are missing my first cruise with them. I sent them an email, see if that works, if not, then I will be calling them.

Perhaps this info from Carnival will help:

The $5 of tokens are for Children who are Platinum...not the parents. It takes the place of the $20 Slots or Blackjack Tournament that kids can not participate in.

Our favorite perks are the free laundry and priority embarkation. But we also like the cabin service better since we've been platinum. Our last cabin steward told us that the stewards who are assigned platinum guests are told to take extra special care of them and she did just that :) The previous cabin steward didn't say that but he was also fantastic.

LOL, we have a long way to yet before we reach platinum status but we did have VIP checkin on our last cruise (Carnival Dream around South America) because of our room assignment. We were really looking forward to the special VIP checkin experience but when we arrived at Fort Lauderdale there were very long lines and apparently much confusion. We found a Carnival employee and requested directions to the VIP line and were informed there was but one line and we had to get into it like everybody else. So off we went to the back of the line. Two hours later we reached the entry into the building. There we found a different Carnival employee, one who seemed to be somewhat less stressed than the lady in our earlier encounter so we again asked about VIP boarding. She kindly pointed out that we were in the wrong line and escorted us to the VIP line. Wow, talk about service: we were whisked through security and personally escorted upstairs to a very short line to process us through the boarding procedures.

I think there was a small black cloud over our heads that day because we stepped up to the VIP counter and were promptly hustled downstairs and out the door due to a bomb scare. This was not necessarily a bad thing because the bomb scare gave us unique cruise bragging rights and we had more than a few extra house to meed lots of new cruise friends.

Yes, we finally got on board about nine hours after arriving at the port and through the wonderful VIP boarding process managed to be the second to last couple to board :D.

We really did receive VIP treatment from our cabin stewards. We have always had great cabin stewards on our very few cruises but Super went way above and beyond for us on our Splendor trip. I have never had a steward open our door for us and Super did it most every day we returned from a shore excursion.... wow!

Perhaps we will have better VIP boarding luck next time .

Jim

P.S. Hi Elaine and Frank: I do believe we may be table mates on the Dream.

Hi, Lynne and Jim. I'm glad that you received exceptionally good service on the Splendor.

I spent more time on your Splendor thread than on our Med Dream thread lately because 1) we're going on the Splendor next February and staying in the same cabin that Nola had on your cruise and 2) I've been worrying about messing up booking airfare, shuttle, hotel, and tours on the Med cruise. Once I do this the first time, the next will be a snap!

Well, I finally broke down and bought our plane tickets. We're have direct, non-stop flights each way out of Newark. It wasn't as good a deal as some of our group got going out of JFK but we decided it was worth it to us to pay a little extra.

I am going to be on the Freedom in May and this will be our first cruise with Platinum status - so we a newbies to the perks! My question is: I am traveling as part of a group of 10, but only 3 of us have the Platinum status. Will we all be able to go through embarkation together via the VIP area?? We obviously want to stay together so we were not sure if they would be able to come with us or if we would have to wait in the normal line with the rest of the family.

Has anyone gotten the Carnival logo item lately? It was still a thermos for us on the Fantasy in January. Hopefully they will change that soon. I have enough of those!!

Just off the Ecstasy yesterday, still the thermos.

Our last cabin steward told us that the stewards who are assigned platinum guests are told to take extra special care of them and she did just that :)

Wow, they missed getting that message to our cabin steward. I left my laundry on the bed at 8:30, and we ran into him in the hall at 9:30 and he asked if we wanted it done. Then I didn't get it until after dinner the following night. And lots of other little things, but the laundry sticks out in my mind since I was out of clothes the last day and had to wear my bathing suit all day. :o

At least that's better than having to wear your BIRTHDAY suit around all day! (Wait, that would be another type of cruise...)
