There are no kettles in the cabin. You can order coffee from room service any time. There is a card to order breakfast with a range of dishes from baked goods to eggs. You can even write in stuff like Eggs Benedict.

We've used it often for coffee, or even breakfast
tokyo Posted April 4, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted April 4, 2009 looks like it will be room service. Now a subject that is not popular, smoking. Where can you smoke on board the Volendam ? Tin hat on and dive for cover LOL
fann1sh Posted April 4, 2009 #6 Share Posted April 4, 2009 Yes, you can smoke in your cabin or on your balcony. In terms of public areas, no in the show lounge and dining room. Yes in the casino. Some bars have smoking areas - others not.
tokyo Posted April 4, 2009 Author #7 Share Posted April 4, 2009 all I want is somewhere to have a pre/post meal cocktail and a smoke. I am into photography, so it would also be nice to have somewhere I can have a smoke while downloading photo's onto my laptop etc. I will be on my own for this cruise (my partner will not do the long flight from the UK) so I don't fancy the idea of spending more time in my cabin that I have to. This will be my 19th cruise ( but 1st with HAl) my other 18 cruises have been with PandO and Cunard. Smoking is a big issue with cruise lines and I can see a time coming when I stop going on a cruise. On a ligher note, if you take the whole issue of health to it's full extent, there is a case to reduce the size of meals and to stop selling alcholic drinks on cruise ships. We all know that over eating and alchol is bad for your health. Also, what about the carbon footprint of cruise ships :rolleyes::rolleyes:
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 4, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 4, 2009 The Crow's Nest is a good place to have a cocktail before and after dinner -- and you can work on your laptop there -- there are hot spots there. And there is a smoking section.

RuthC Posted April 4, 2009 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2009 If you order coffee via the room service request form, be sure to note everything you want with it. If you want cream/half & half/milk, or sugar/sugar substitute, you must specify that. The same thing hold true if you want toast/english muffin. If you also want butter/margarine, or jelly, that needs to be requested.
