Time to get on ship in San Juan

Recommended Posts

We are looking to go on the Adventure of the Seas from San Juan. Since the ship leaves at 8:30pm, I was curious when boarding can commence. We will be arriving the night before, and are wondering of there will be time to see the sights in old San Juan before hand. We do like getting on early too, but the boarding time may make the choice for us. Thanks for your assistance.

Cruised AOS twice (both routes). Boarding begins by noon, but I don't believe you have to be on board until later in the day (usually 1-2 hours before departure), so if you want to tour OSJ (and you have a place for your luggage), go ahead and tour.

On the 3/22 cruise, boarding began around 11am. However, you could not access your stateroom until 2pm. We sat with our carryons while we had lunch at the Windjammer.

Boarding usually starts around 11:30 or so. If you'd like, you can board the ship, have a free lunch in the Windjammer then get off and tour Old San Juan. Old San Juan is across the harbor from the pier. It's a 10 minute taxi ride at most.

As you've been told, you can board early. Old San Juan is close enough for you to board and get right off and take a taxi. Just know that you need to be onboard by 5:00 pm in spite of the late sailing as the muster drill is at 6:00. We had no delays boarding or in the pier area at noon or around 3:00 on our recent cruises. There were lots of taxis available for going into OSJ and once there, there were lots of taxis in the pier area where Carnival docks for the return trip to the Adventure. I don't remember but it may have been about $15 each way.

You should not have a problem boarding around noon or a bit earlier. We have sailed on AOS out of PR twice and each time we arrived around 1130 and were onboard no later than 1210. We spent a delightful afternoon having lunch, seeting dinner reservations, checking out the assigned dinner table for the week and relaxing at the pool. You may not have access to your cabin but depending on where it is located, you might be able to sneak in and drop your carry-on. See how close to a stairway to guess at it.

Have a great time.

On Celebrity we boarded normal time (noon), we just didn't sail away until 10 PM. We also disembarked normal time on the last day. The turnaround time for the ship was the same as other ports, they just gave more time for late arrivals to San Juan.
