Holiday question

I've been on eleven cruises, and sailed on Carnival one of the eleven. Dh is treating the two of us to a quick weekend get away to celebrate my 40th Bday. What does everyone think of the Holiday. I've taken something from each one of my cruises, and never thought I wasted my time or money. I would love some in-put about this ship. Where is the odor problem I keep hearing about??? Any thing would be appreciated.

Iv heard about odor problems on lots of ships, the pipes on older ships can back up. I dont think its a constant problem. I would think the lower decks could suffer more than a higher decks as things flow down. Not something I worry about.

Holiday is small enough it should be easy to get around. Dont miss the deli.

I think you will have a wonderful time. The food and service were excellent on my 2 cruises on the Holiday. If you go wanting to have a good time, surprise, surprise, you will. :)

The odor problem (in my experience) was a slight sewer smell on the Main deck sometimes.

Thought the Holiday was good for the price it does not have the grand atrium but has everything most of the ships have but on a small level. Did not experiance any odor problems but my shower would not drain and they had to take the wall out under the sink and fix it but did it rather quick.

I guess it boils down to you get what you pay for.:)

My girlfriends and I took a 5 day on the Holiday this past summer. It was their first cruise, my fourth. My first was on the Holiday's sister ship, the Jubilee, which is no longer in Carnival's fleet. My other two were on the Pride and Glory, both MUCH larger ships. I still absolutely LOVED the cruise on the Holiday. It is small, and the Lido deck buffet area could get crowded, but other than that, had a wonderful time. Had read about the odor problems some had mentioned on these boards, along with some about brown water - never experienced either. Service was absolutely fabulous, everyone was so friendly. If you go, say hi to Mary Sunshine, the BEST cocktail waitress!

Hello neighbor,

We have been on Holiday and are going again in June.

She is a smaller ship. I enjoyed the Holiday before. Only down thing I can say is that when underpower there was a vibration in the upper decks.

On the other hand.... Service and food are some of the best in the fleet in my opinion and from what I read.

I did not notice any sewer smell.

Another option from our area may be to catch the Fantasy out of NOLA.

We chose the Holiday however since it stops in Calica/Playa Del Carmen instead of Progresso.

Enjoy!

Don

I was on the Holiday March 23-28. There was a vibration, pretty much all the time that we were sailing. Our cabin was on the Main deck, mid-ship. It didn't really bother me that much, you just had to be careful what you left on the shelf in the bathroom. Glass items rattling against the mirror can get annoying.

I did notice the smell, mostly around the gift shop (outside the main floor theater entrance). It wasn't overwhelming, but I noticed it. You know what else smells like that? Mobile. Not that Mobile is a bad place, but it smells like that.

I really like the smaller ships - I've been on the Jubilee and the Celebration, also. Go and have a great time - you won't regret it.

I've sailed on the Diamond Princess & it was too big for us. Don't mind smaller ships. I sailed on NCL majesty & I don't remember it having the fancy atrium. I did have an agent one time tell us that she personally wouldn't sell us a cruise on the Holiday. I'm willing to try it out for myself. We have booked for Sept. 17. It was a great deal. We just sailed on MSC Lirica last month for a 10 night sailing. Not your typical party crowd, but we still had a great time!!!! No kids for this one & only turn 40 once. We are bringing a couple along with us for their first cruise. Hope it all works out for them. Like I said, "I've never had a bad cruise."

Thanks,

I love the Holiday. I've been on the Main Deck both times and never experienced any odor problems. The first time on the Holiday I was way to the back and did experience some engine noise and vibration. It didn't bother me, just lulled me to sleep each night.

I did a "last minute weekend away" on the Holiday for Valentines Day last year. DH and I are experienced cruisers. So if we had nothing to compare it to, would have thought it was wonderful. As long as you don't go in with huge expectations, you'll love it. It's an older, really small ship. But, it's clean and got us some "us" time for a few days. Which was ultimately what we were looking for. Service and food were both great. The only thing I really remember that I would have a negative comment on, was disembarkation was total chaos. Hopefully, they have that worked out now.

Hope yall have a wonderful trip!

I think you will be fine on the Holiday. Especially since you have been on the Majesty it is smaller than the Holiday. Sounds like you have a great attitude and know how to make the best out of a cruise and that is what more people need. I am going again next month on the Holiday and going to try to go once more before she leaves. It is a great quick getaway and not a bad drive from here in the Memphis area. Can't catch you guys in Sept., we will be on the Valor the 20th but hope you have a great cruise!

HI,

Last March we sailed on the Holiday on our very first cruise. We did not notice an odor problem or the brown water I have been reading about. We did, however, have a very rough trip, ALOT of rocking and I spent the first full day at sea in bed. The service was excellent and our cabin steward knew I was not feeling well and did keep checking up on me and even brought me soup that I didn't even ask for to help make me feel better. We had an ocean view cabin and I kept opening the curtain to watch the storm we were in and he would close the curtain on me when he came to check on me and would always say if I keep the curtain closed I wouldn't see the waves.

Anyway, we did have a great time and we are going on our second cruise leaving Sept. 13, on the Pride.

Have made two trips on the Holiday, the third coming up in a few days. Love it. Great food, staff and service all around. I have had cabins on the main deck forward both previous trips and that is where I will be again. Never experinced the odor or any other reported problems around my cabin area. Did feel the vibrations in the aft area of the ship on all decks. Unfortunately some of the most vocal anti-Holiday posters seem to have never sailed on her, so take what you read with the proverbial grain-of-salt (just like all "Honest" reviews). I for one will miss her when she leaves and have no problem recommending the Holiday to one and all.

I wouldn't advise taking the Holiday unless she was made into a Casino ship and sailed out into international waters. I think you would be better served waiting on the Fantasy to take the Holiday's place or driving to NOLA and take the Fantasy.

is a walk up counter..still you order deli types sammies.on the Lido, inside aft-ish midship over by the salad bar,it's connected to the dessert bar, just by the ice cream machines, across from the windows, that are on the edges of inside, which goes mostly around the perimeters dividing in from out, in the middle of tables n chairs, that are connected to the thigh bone, connected to the leg bone :D

Thanks luckycruzer, I knew that I remembered having a sandwich one day, but for for the life of me could not remember where the deli was located, somewhere on the Lido deck is all that I could remember.
