Muumuu Posted April 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 18, 2009 Now that Carnival will change these cruises to out of Seattle is there an option for the side trip to Denale still? I cannot go this year but do not want to miss Denali.
wrp96 Posted April 19, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Not on Carnival. If you want to see Denali, you'll have to switch to a one-way cruise on another cruiseline.
Muumuu Posted April 19, 2009 Author #3 Share Posted April 19, 2009 I thought that might be the answer. So now I will be trying another line for the first time. Any suggestions on which might be better for adult women and a 14 and 9 year old?
wrp96 Posted April 19, 2009 #4 Share Posted April 19, 2009 Consider Princess or RCCL. I recommend choosing based on itinerary though as that is what is important in Alaska and not restricting your choice by cruiseline.

Muumuu Posted April 20, 2009 Author #6 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Thank you for your help. I will venture out of the Carnival box for this one.
Aplmac Posted April 20, 2009 #7 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Alaska's legislation regarding pollution standards for what cruise ships are allowed to output are becoming more and more restrictive - to the point where they'll begin to impinge on the very viability of offering and operating cruises to Alaska! I was recently in the company of a Royal Caribbean ship's Environmental Officer. During the 4 hrs. I was in his company, he spoke at length and in great detail about all daily duties and concerns, ISO standards, grey water, black water, etc. He mentioned that Alaska was by far an Environmental Officer's worst nightmare and opined that when(not if) Alaska's strict rules got any stricter it would soon be not feasible to do Alaska cruises any more. I probed a bit further, looking for a time frame. 5 years? I suggested.. Not even that he said...more like 3. _______________________________________ No-one's going to tell you this 'inside' stuff but I thought you might like to bear it in mind in case you have any long-term projections for your Alaska cruise "in 6 years time" ..you might want to shorten that time-frame a bit? . Rare jimbo5544 Posted April 20, 2009 #8 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Consider Princess or RCCL. I recommend choosing based on itinerary though as that is what is important in Alaska and not restricting your choice by cruiseline. I would agree but add another point. If the add on is as important to you make sure you look at what the Line offers for these. I believe HAL offers unique (maybe not better, but that is for you to decide) add on's. Saw a presentation once by a HAL area Cruise rep that pointed out the differences, but I cannot recall what they were now, but you should be able to see if meaningful to you on the brochures.
