bermuda triangle Posted April 20, 2009 #1 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Has anyone been on a Sunday? Are shops open or closed? Any other info is greatly appreciated! Laura
Fblack Posted April 20, 2009 #2 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Cobh is a nice little town. Lots of places to eat and shop. But, I would strongly suggest you find a way to explore the area rather than spend all day in town. For one, try to go to Blarney Castle. It's a very interesting place and not too far away. travelbig Posted April 20, 2009 #3 Share Posted April 20, 2009 Look at this site for a good, reasonably priced tour at this port. Others on your cruise will probably book it also. Post it on your cruise thread. www.ecoach.ie/
MDen Posted May 8, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 8, 2009 There is plenty to see and do in Cobh on a Sunday, all the shops usually open on Sundays if a liner is visiting. There is a spectacular cathedral which overlooks the town, there is also a heritage center which gives all the maritime history of the town and harbour. A short train ride will get you to Fota Wildlife Park and Fota House & Gardens (lovely in the summer). And if that wears you out, there are some great pubs to serve you up a nice cold Guinness in a friendly atmosphere. The town center is literally 2-3 minutes walk. Hope this helps. alfiemom Posted May 27, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 27, 2009 We did it on a Sunday and had a wonderful time. We'd already been to Blarney and wanted to explore closer to the ship. Walked up to the church and saw the end of a funeral. When we went into the church, the priest invited us to stay for the baptisim that was going to be happening. Lovely church, nice experience (never have been to one) and very gracious people. Maritime museum is small but nicely done. Bobbie
cujosmom Posted May 30, 2009 #7 Share Posted May 30, 2009 One of our ports of call while on a TransAtlantic cruise was Cobh on May 1st. You can view some of the pictures I took of Cobh at the following link. http://picasaweb.google.com/martyreep Just click on the Cobh Album. We just walked around the city and went up to the cathedral and visited the maritime museum at the Cultural Center (at the port). Charming town with lots of history. You'll have a nice time.:)
Chester & Brewster Posted June 1, 2009 #8 Share Posted June 1, 2009 For those of you visiting Cork in June, the Midsummer Festival is on in the city between the 13th & 28th. The first weekend (13th/14th) is the street performance world championship & the final Sunday (28th) is "Feasta" with a huge food market in the city centre. The website gives details of all of the events. http://www.corkmidsummer.com/2009/ (BTW I have no link or affiliation to the festival in any way.)
