Downgrading accomodations

We are currently booked in a suite for our upcoming cruise and are contemplating downgrading to a mini suite or a balcony stateroom. Has anyone done this in the past? Did you get a new booking number or does it stay the same?

Thanks.

We're booked on a HAL cruise and recently decided to change our stateroom category downward. There was no new booking number, just a new lower price! We did it through a travel agent, not directly with HAL. It shouldn't be a problem...........this was prior to final payment being made.

Thanks for your quick replies. Hopefully, this won't have to happen, but it's nice to know that you do not have to cancel and rebook.

I would contact HAL or my T/A and ask what happens if I downgrade after final payment date. I can understand that HAL may permit moving up to a higher cabin category after final payment ... but I'm not so sure about a downgrade at that point.

Checked the "Change Charges" section in HAL's current brochure, and it states: "To cover admiinistrative costs, a per-person charge will be made if you request a change in your travel arrangements after the final payment due date. Change charges are not assessed for stateroomm upgrades or for the addition of services, unless air reservations are altered and/or travel documents must be reissued." There is not statement as to how much this fee might be.

You did not indicate whether your change might be before of after final payment date, but I think it's a good idea to get your answer directly from the horse's mouth, so to speak.

I downgraded on our very first cruise (HAL 2007) way before final payment. I had booked directly with HAL over the phone and made the changes directly with them over the phone. I was issued a new booking number and all my prepaid stuff was refunded. I had to rebook excurision, casino credits and gifts.

Double check with whoever you book with to make sure this won't happen to you.

Enjoy your cruise.
