Fblack Posted May 5, 2009 #5 Share Posted May 5, 2009 On those private tours by car or van to the Pyramids, how is security handled?
zipporah Posted May 9, 2009 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2009 Hi, For those concerned about safety in Egypt: The Egyptian Ministry of Interior sends security cars to escort all the tourist buses and vans for all the tours. The matter is handeled by the Egyptian tourism police --not by the travel agent or by the ship. Shirley
kyam Posted May 11, 2009 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2009 I used Ramses Travel on our stop in Egypt on our cruise in Apr 09. We had a great time. Our tour guide Marwan Sayed was very knowledgeable and well spoken in English. The pyramids and sphynx are truely amazing and how anyone can drive in that traffic is beyond me. I wish we had more time for King Tutts museum; how do you see it all ( maybe in 2 lifetimes). We took the 2 day tour and did Ciaro one day and Alexandria the next. Alexandria is a beautiful city, only a mere 5,000,000 people. The library is a working piece of art. Hard to say which place I like the best, gardens, palace, lighthouse etc. The food.... My only regret is we didn't do the Nile dinner cruise. I would go back thanks Ramses and Marwan. Laurie Eide Vancouver, Canada

Again thank you so much for your review. Sharon Campbell
gmadvm Posted May 23, 2009 #9 Share Posted May 23, 2009 Any recent Ramses tour attendees able to share their experiences? Overnight tour in Cairo including the pyramids/sphinx, mummy room, bazaar and day 2 is citadel and memphis and sakkara. Did you feel rushed? Were they good about fending off overzealous vendors? And lastly did you feel confident about getting back to the ship in time on the second day. Thanks in advance.
Marie-Claude Posted May 23, 2009 #10 Share Posted May 23, 2009 I'm jumping in as I'm also interested in any cruisers back from tours with Ramses... we booked a tour to Cairo with them for next November. Hoping to hear from people who have toured with them! They have been really quick at responding and good to deal with so far, but there's nothing like a real recommendation from experienced cruisers to make us feel a bit more confident!! Janevo Posted May 24, 2009 #12 Share Posted May 24, 2009 I am trying to check the cost of excursions in September with Ramses Tours, but I'm getting no reply to my emails, although everyone says how promptly they reply. I have used the contact page on their web site http://www.ramsestours.com/index.php?id=7 and had no response, as well as info@ramsestours.com that I picked up from a thread on Cruise Critic. I sent one email on May 15th and the other prior to that. Can I check I have the correct emails and company? Often in reviews people will write Ramses Travel etc. I would be grateful for any thoughts (just to mention they have not replied & its gone to junk mail either, I checked that too). Magster1 Posted May 24, 2009 #14 Share Posted May 24, 2009 I also had to email him twice before I got a reply, he said he didn't receive my first request. I wrote "2nd request" in the subject line of my second email and heard back very quickly. Since then, George has been very responsive.
Janevo Posted May 24, 2009 #15 Share Posted May 24, 2009 Thank you. I have tried again using hotmail (today) instead of yahoo and now got a reply from George (he did say that for the last few days they had email problems in Alexandria) - but I think it was using yahoo that had been the problem perhaps. pbk Posted May 26, 2009 #16 Share Posted May 26, 2009 We have not yet been n a tour with Ramses, but we have one booked. I not only looked at their reviews, I googled the company and found only positive reviews. We have 6 couples that all agreed they seemed very responsive to all inquiries and decided to use them. gmadvm Posted May 26, 2009 #17 Share Posted May 26, 2009 Requesting experiences with Ramses tours. Two day tour, overnight at Le Meridien. Includes Giza pyramids, cairo museum, light and sound show, citadel, memphis and sakkara and the bazaar. I posted a few days ago but nobody answered and now the thread is gone. Anybody got some fond memories you would like to share?
pbk Posted May 26, 2009 #18 Share Posted May 26, 2009 Our group has not traveled with them yet, but the 12 of us agreed that every site we checked had positive reviews--some from only a month ago. We googled the company in addition to reviewing trip advisor and cruise critic. The company has also been quick to respond to all of our questions. Will post again when we return. onlyparrotlets Posted June 3, 2009 #21 Share Posted June 3, 2009 We did two single day tours with Ramses, one to Gisa and Cairo from Port Said and the second in Alexandria. Both guides were excellent, spoke good English and took good care of us. The Alexandria guide, Mohamed, was outstanding. We'd been on a 12 day tour of Egypt last year, so we wanted something a little different and Ramses accommodated us by taking us off the usual track. The Gisa/Cairo tour was long since the ride from Port Said is about 100 miles each way. The Alexandria tour was spectacular. We saw all the usual things, but the highlight was actually going inside of the new Alexandria Library. Most tours only drive by it, but inside it is spectacular and the exhibits are worthwhile. This is the largest library in the world and the main space is incredibly large and beautiful. Another highlight was lunch. We all ate Sea Bass. It was the best fish dish I have ever had in my life. The cost of the tours was $95 each (x3 people) for Gisa/Cairo paid in US dollars cash plus tips for the driver and guide. The Alexandria tour was about 5 hours, and was $65 each plus tips. In both cases we had a mini-van to ourselves. Could you tell us a little bit about when you took this tour. Thank you for your information. Why did you choose Ramses? We have had quotes from several agencies, including Ramses, but am leaning towards memphistours right now.
Fblack Posted June 3, 2009 #22 Share Posted June 3, 2009 Does Ramses tours still require you to Wire money to them as a deposit? That just adds to the cost.
Marie-Claude Posted June 3, 2009 #23 Share Posted June 3, 2009 Does Ramses tours still require you to Wire money to them as a deposit? That just adds to the cost. I have a tour booked with Ramses for Cairo from Alexandria and it was confirmer that no deposit is required. Tour to be paid in cash the day of the tour. osandomir Posted June 6, 2009 #25 Share Posted June 6, 2009 We used Ramses Tours in Egypt last week (May 27th and 28th, 2009). I chose them after finding a couple of recommended tour companies in Cruise Critic and sending emails to them. Ramses replied first, had a fair price, and were flexible about where we wanted to go and what we wanted to see. We had done a land tour in Egypt last year so we didn't want the usual stuff (except to see the Pyramids again). Can you please tell us who was your guide and how did your tour go. Did you like this tour. Anything you want to mention. Thank you in advance.
