HI

I"ll be on the Victory for the New Years Eve cruise. I booked the Howard Johnsons for $100 a night and it is well within walking distance to the ship (not as close as the Sheraton, but still within walking distance)

This is not from personal experience, but just from what I have read on these boards. The Victory docks at pier 4 (I think) right across from Old San Juan. I am not sure about boarding time, but people have mentioned that that boarded, then got off the ship and did some sightseeing, then reboarded later in the day. Can someone else confirm this?

THX!:D

Yes, we sailed the Victory in May 09, you can get on, get to your cabin and then leave to go shopping in SJ. You can buy any alcohol you want right there at the pier shops, just carry it on, no ?'s asked. We (4 of us) took about 2 or 3 bottles each if that is what you want. You can also buy mix or soda as well. Have a great cruise

Thanks for the pix. This will be my first time on Carnival...2 previous cruises on RCCL. Is there anything in particular that I should look for, or is there anything not to miss?:D

We have cruised RCCL Mariner and once on Victory, all in all I will stick with RCCL, service better, ship MUCH nicer, worth the small difference in $.

Victory didn't have any change in food menu for breakfast or lunch, same things everyday. We found the ship difficult to move around on the same deck, lots of elevator hopping to get to another part of the ship. We did the 7 day, new port everyday, southern carribean, too much, too fast, no down time on ship. Ports were good, excursions were good, ship really cruised at night.

We were on deck 6, metal doors, same on deck 7 (had friends there)

On Deck 8 (cabin 8439) we had to use tape to get our sign to stick to the door. I brought magnetic strips to use on the back, and they wouldn't work.

Deck 8- Was this a good location?

Was it easy to access other parts of the ship?

Could you use the stairs?

I'm trying to better understand the layout of the ship.

Thanks

We liked being on Deck 8, just below the Lido. We would take the stairs up to the Lido deck. (We were behind, but still close to, the back set of stairs and elevators.)

The diningroom in on decks 3 and 4, the theatre takes up decks 3-5. The main lobby is on deck 3, the photo shop on deck 4, and the shops, casino and lounges are on 5. None were difficult to get to.......you'll learn which elevators don't go all the way up or down very quickly! :-)

You'll have no problems.

I've been doing a lot of researching the and found some great stuff on excursions. What it hard to find is doing ATVing at XXX compared to doing it YYY. From what I've gathered, on this itinerary, St Lucia would be the place to zip line and Dominica would be the place to to ATV?

We just returned home from the Victory late last night....this was our first Carnival cruise, but our 5th cruise overall. This was a very relaxing cruise for us (even though it was port intensive). We stayed in cabin 9262 on the Lido deck...couldn't beat the location!!! Just a few pics...

We didn't feel much motion at all. The only time we did was when we were leaving San Juan, and it was rocky everywhere! Other than that, we didn't feel a thing!

Again, I loved the location and being on the Lido deck was so convienent for everything!

Have lots of fun on your cruise (I know you will)

Is anyone else on the Victory on March 21, 2010? There isn't much activity on the roll call for this date. This will be our first cruise....for our 10th anniversary.

Has anyone done the Titou Gorge tour with Bumpiing tours? It sounds great, but I am nervous about the cold water. I was hoping that someone had done this tour and could give me an idea of how cold the water is.

morning....we have a Cruise Critic group going in april, and I have a couple questions....:D

1. What time can you drop your bags off and get your S&S card so we can go explore Old San Juan for the day?

2. what time do they actually start letting people board the ship?

3. do they have a sailaway deck party since they don't leave until so late in the evening?

4. On a related note...if they do have a sailaway party, do they also have one for the people who board in Barbados?

Thanks!

HEY! We are staying in that room for Christmas! This is our first aft cabin and I am having doubts at my choice.. you know - the back of the ship. Were you happy with this cabin? I still have time to change.

My best answers based on when the Carnival Destiny was sailing at 10PM from this same pier.

1. People started arriving about 10:30-11AM. They started check in about 11.

2. The embarkation time varies based on customs. For me it was 2:30PM. I have heard on other sailings it was as early as 1PM.

3. Yes, after the muster drill, there is a sail-away on deck. It's a pretty sight to see SJU fade away, go past the fort, and off into the night.

4. No, it's a minimal number of people who usually board in Barbados. No sail-away, just like any other port departure.

We sailed last week on the Victory, will help where I can.

We were staying on Island Verde 4 days prior to the cruise so there was no rush for us to board. Our documents said boarding started at 2:00 and that was about the time that we got there.

Was quite impressed just how easy the boarding was, no lines to speak of and we were in our cabin within 15 or so minutes from arrival.

We toured Old San Juan at the end of our cruise as we had a late flight. From the center we could see the Victory, so it is probably walking distance from the ship.(Not sure about this through) Even if you leave the ship around 2ish or so you should have enough time to see all you want in old San Juan and be back on board in plenty of time.... We were in the town on our own for about 3 hours and that was plenty of time... We did not go into the forts though. BTW the entrance fee to the fort is only $3.00. Here is a link of pictures we took. This was at the end of the cruise and I was just about pictured out, but will give you an idea.

Yes, there was a sailaway party, after the muster drill. Now that you do not have to bring life jackets to the drill with you it made it easy just to go on deck for the sailaway.

This week-end will start to write my review. If there is anything special you would like to know or specfic pictures you would like to see just let me know. We were traveling with 2 cameras and a flip video... Chances are I have a picture of anything that interests you!!
