clothing for British Isles Cruise June 25-July 7

My husband will be boarding the Crown Princess June 25 for a cruise around the British Isles. We will visit ports in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Scotland, and finally Normandy/Paris. What type of clothing should we take with us?

The weather can vary greatly, so I recommend bringing a little of everything, especially layers. You might want to consider rain gear and good sturdy shoes.

Keep an eye on the forecasts for the previous week to see if you can fathom out the range of weather that might be heading your way during your visit. At least you can get a guide as to how wet/sunny/hot it might be. Even in the best circumstances it can still be hot and muggy, and a few days later chilly, damp or positively wet.

Pack a little of everything as it's not unusual to have 4 seasons in one day here. Whatever the weather you'll have a fantastic time.

 

There is no such thing as bad weather......only the wrong clothing :)

Temperatures could range from mid fifties right up to the nineties. It could be dry or it could be incredibly wet. It may be a still day or it could be windy. It can also become very humid.

 

Welcome to the UK where the weather is unpredictable. I am currently packing for Alaska and it is a breeze for me as Alaska summers are just like British summers. Never go anywhere without a sweater and a rain jacket.

 

In the UK weather sometimes sticks around for a few days, so you could have 3 or 4 days of very hot sunny weather followed by 2 or 3 days of cold and wet. Just come prepared and everything will be fine.

You will love the changeable weather you get in the UK, unlike Phoenix, how could you put up with sun all the time and, as I write this, 38 deg C. Uk currently about 16 degC:D:D

Rain gear, don't forget that. We sailed almost this same itineary and found out why some of these places are so green. lol Waterproof shoes wouldn't hurt a bit either. ;)

You might have missed our summer by the time you embark in June - last year it only lasted for April and then the rest of the year was quite dismal:p - I'm joking, we do sometimes have some nice weather and we have been forecast to have a scorcher this year. Bring plenty of layers, a raincoat and an umbrella - you will need it at some point. We did the same cruise in 2005 but we went in July. We had great use out of our raincoats, especially in Ireland:D

 

I second what GlasgowGuy says about no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong type of clothing - we are taught that from infancy:p

You must remember that in the U.K. we only get two days of summer each year.:cool:

That being said we did a cruise a couple of years ago in Sept. and the weather was great!! We did have a couple of hours of rain in Scotland, but as they say in Alaska when it rains, 'Now you are seeing the true country!'

Enjoy, and think 'dry', we did!
