Faith/Hope/Charity Posted May 4, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Going on Mariner of The Sea soon. Our daughter is very particular about what she eats. She loves all breakfast foods, but does not like fancy foods with sauces and such. She loves plain grilled chicken breast and steak. Will we have problems eating in the dining room? jean-lynd Posted May 4, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 4, 2004 You will not have any problems eating in the dining room. There are a lot of "plain" choices. I don't know how old your daughter is but I have seen adults order things off of the children's menu if they don't like what they see on the regular menu. I hope this helps! KStevens79 Posted May 4, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 4, 2004 My son was/is the same way. He was 12 when we sailed Voyager. Every night (except when he made pizza with the kids) he ate steak and caesar salad. I'm sure chicken without a sauce can be ordered too. If I remember right, that's what my daughter. She was 14 at the time. They don't like to try new things. M&M Hayden Posted May 4, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 4, 2004 A couple of years ago one of our tablesmates didn't eat anything with onion or garlic, or any spice. The chefs would whip her up a big plate of vegetables. On another cruise another tablemate had a dietary restriction. She had Mac & Cheese just about every night. And you can also get the steaks and chicken without sauces. M&M
superjerryw Posted May 4, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 4, 2004 The first night of the cruise speak to your Maitre'd. He can show you the menus for the entire week. If your daughter does not see anything that she likes on a particular night you can ask the Maitre'd to have something made to order. Donuts, is there anything they can't do.... Cruise Junky Posted May 4, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Definitely not a problem. My Mom is the same way and has cruised RCI and Princess. Never a problem. She usually had a chicken breast with a baked potato. Stuff like that is always available. Island Princess Some Ship, Some Itinerary, Somewhere in the Med. trish1c Posted May 4, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 4, 2004 There is a plain grilled chicken breast & some kind of steak available every night, no matter what's on the actual menu. I'm not a big fan of sauces either & I've never eaten somewhere when they couldn't put the sauce on the side or remove it completely on at least some dishes. kml2000 Posted May 4, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 4, 2004 You won't have a problem! My daughter (10 when we last cruised) likes bland foods and no sauces. She ate the steak from the kids menu about 3 nights, ate with the kid's club twice and can't remember about the other two nights. She didn't go hungry, I know that. On the Grandeur, she could get Chicken Noodle Soup as an appetizer and one night they brought her out a "vegetable plate" as an appetizer. It was carrots, celery, and zucchini sliced up. She did fine on the cruise! 04/03/05 Mariner of the Seas Can NOT wait! iluvcruzin Posted May 4, 2004 #10 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Definately no problem. I've sailed with those that are "plain" eaters. You can actually get a plain cheeseburger and fries every night at the dinning room if that's what she wants. They have an alternative menu list on the menu of items they serve every night like steak and chicken. We didn't like the deserts on our last cruise so we ordered ice cream, with choc. syrup, whipped cream and cherries. The Head waiter came up to us and said "that's not on the menu" we replied "well it should be!". Family of 14 Posted May 4, 2004 #11 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Faith/Hope/Charity - My son is 16. On a 7 night cruise, he eats steak, baked potato and bread everynight. He will occasionally have the Ceasar Salad and will try soup from the menu if it doesn't sound too gross. If plain chocolate cake is offered for dessert, he will eat that. If not, he has vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce. <MARQUEE>Are you sailing on the Mariner 7/18/04?...Click here! or HERE! </MARQUEE> Disney Wonder 3/2000 ~ Disney Magic 9/2000 ~ RCI Vision 2/2001 ~ Carnival Victory 12/2001 ~ Celebrity Millennium 3/2003 ~ RCI Adventure OTS 9/2003 ~ RCI Mariner OTS 7/18/2004 ~ RCI Serenade OTS 9/26/2004

sailor moon Posted May 4, 2004 #13 Share Posted May 4, 2004 I had to laugh because our DD is a picky eater (also mild autism) and when we took her on Disney 3 years ago, she would only eat avocado! Nothing else would do. The Matre'D made sure she had it EVERY meal (3 times a day)Heaven help when when we are on the Rhapsody for Thanksgiving this year as her tastes have not changed much! Family of 14 Posted May 4, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 4, 2004 ruttie - My daughter was suppose to tape it. We don't have the Travel Channel. You had given me a time of 11:00 am, so I looked it up just to make sure and I found a 2:00 pm show. Hope it was on. I will let you know what I think after I watch it. London, Canada Posted May 4, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 4, 2004 Faith/Hope/Charity...thanks for posting this as I have an 18 year old that is an absolutely, positively horrible eater...give her a burger from McDonald's and she will eat it, give her a Chicken Sandwich from KFC she will eat it...make it all the same at home and there is NO way she will eat it...I never thought of her eating when we cruise in Feb. 05...now that you posted this I can reassure her that she won't starve...and won't have to live on desserts...she will eat any of those unless it is Cheese Cake...she sure doesn't take after me....happy to hear they will make her special foods...even it will embarrass her when I ask... Family of 14 Posted May 5, 2004 #16 Share Posted May 5, 2004 rutti - My DD taped the show and it came out all fuzzy. She says her VCR will not tape high numbered channels (64). I see where it is on again this Friday at 3:00. I am just going to go to her apartment and watch it live.
Guest NBestafka Posted May 5, 2004 #17 Share Posted May 5, 2004 We just returned from Brilliance. My 10 year old son hates everything food related. (so it seems at times). The first night in the diningroom he told the waiter he liked corn on the cob... they brought it everytime we ate in the diningroom. He ordered everything without sauce... as plain as it would come... and they were always happy to do whatever it took to fill him up!!!! Plus, they always have burgers, steak, chicken nuggets, spaghetti etc!!!! If you don't see something your daughter will eat, just ask!!!!! They are more than happy to get it if they can!!!! Have fun on your cruise! Nancy

Rare GaryWT Posted May 5, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 5, 2004 As thers have said it is available. On the 3 cruises we have been on, every night, on the menu it listed steak, chicken and fish (well 2 choices each night) but as the waiters have always said, if it is on the menu at some point then it is on the ship from the beginning of the cruise. 3/98 Grandeur of the Seas 4/00 Grandeur of the Seas 2/02 Enchantment of the Seas 04/16/05 Navigator of the Seas

theseas4me Posted May 5, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 5, 2004 The great thing about cruising is you can try new things and if you don't like it, the waiter will bring you something different. It think this is a good time to get kids to try new foods because there is always Plan B. My son is a picky eater, but gets a kick out of knowing he can order whatever on the cruise.
