I would like to comment on your question.

I have used the services of Romeinlimo several times and the drivers gave our group of 8 a great deal of information and history. They are not licesnsed guides but are very well versed in thier history and facts. The drivers usually stayed close to the car, and arranged a time for us to meet them back at the car (or we could come back to the van prior to that time if we wished). They were very knowledgeable and gave us very informative tours. I believe they are way more than just a driver for the car.

All three drivers we had in Nov-Dec were very friendly and went well "above & beyond" what was expected of them. I cannot recommend them enough. I would not consider using anyone else while visiting Italy, whether for a day or a month. We found the rates to be very reasonable (we were traveling in a group of 8 which helped). They were very adaptable to whatever we wanted to do, or where ever we wanted to go. One person in our group needed to make a stop at a pharmacy which was no problem, the driver arranged that when we stopped at the museum, their was a pharmacy just down the street, and the others went into the museum and were not inconvienced by a stop.

The resturant recommendations were very reasonably priced and excellent food and wine. We had asked for a local, casual place that the drivers might eat with thier families and that is what we got. Wonderful food, wine and service along with a view.

It was the very best experiences of a three week + long trip. I have been to Italy on four previous occassions and this trip was absolutely the best! I now feel like I have seen Italy. Thank you to Rome in Limo.

Rome to Pompei + more is possible in a day. We hired a private van (7 of us) for about 500 euros ALL day (about 12 hours). Start early for Pompei, spend about 2-3 hours there. Drive south to Amalfi coast, stop at scenic outlooks & Positano. Spend about 2-3 hours in Amalfi & return Rome.

Yes, we took the Cinque Terre tour from Livorno last June, and it was an unmitigated disaster. Although we booked months ahead of time, they assigned us a driver who spoke no English and a guide, whom we did not ask for, who had not been to this area for years. After berating me for being an hour late (thank goodness, I had my confirmation email with me to show I was right on time), she had to be shown where to buy the boat tickets, where the trail was, etc. endlessly all day. Totally disorganized, said she did not even know whom she was working for, did not follow the itinerary we requested (never saw Corniglia), and the day only brightened when we left her behind and explored Vernazza by ourselves.

 

That being said, Dumon did not charge us for the day, but I was severely disappointed, as well as embarassed terribly in front of the two other couples with us, and I never will book with them again.

I'm sorry to hear that the Cinque terre with romeinlimo didn't work out too well for you. I had them and it went very very nice. Our driver was on time and extremely friendly. Our guide was a gentleman and knew everything. The views were spetacular and they even accomodated breakfast for us as well. I do recommend that if anyone has a disability to think twice because of the very uneven and many steps to go to the lover's lane walk, but if you're physically fit, it's a great trip with romeinlimo. I am very pleased with romeinlimo and will continue to use and refer them.

We did Pisa and San Gemignano with RIL> Our lunch stop was at a beautiful winery just outside of San Gemignano. The winemaker met, took us to his cellar where we had superb appetizer, soup, lasanga and biscotti, each paired with his own delicious wine. If you're a "wino" like we are, you'll find the wine outstanding. We ordered several bottles delivered to our home. It truly was the highlight of a great cruise. RIL, with Jany manning the computer and who apparently never sleeps, can be counted on to give you one of your best shore excursions ever. All of out group weren't big wine drinkers but, if most of you are, I'm sure they could accomodate stops at more wineries.

For Cinque Terre we took the Holland America ship tour. RomeinLimo and the ship's tour were approx. the same price for 4 people. The reason we went with the ship's tour was timing and the advantage of having a guide. A knowledgeable guide for this destination is definitely valuable. There are several connections and transfers (boat, train, tour); our guide had this scheduled perfectly so no visiting/sightseeing time was lost. The local background information and History the guide provided added greatly to the experience. We were extremely pleased with this ship tour. There were 24 people in our group, easily manageable size.

Our first choice is always a private tour, and we have been pleased with RomeinLimo for "Rome." It will be your personal choice as to selection. It is my opinion that Cinque Terre is more unique and interesting. I'd do a wine tour in another area.

what I liked about Jany and Duman at RomeinLimo is that that were honest and reliable. Just email them your questions and you will get the advice you seek. We have used them several times. Saw Pompeii and Sorrento from Napes with them as well as Rome (different cruise ports). Also gave us good advice about reserving tickets to get into museums on our own. Can't go wrong! linda

4 of us used Rome in Limo on the 9th March 10 and had an amazing time despite the weather. Rome in Limo were there to pick us up at the port and were even early. Francessco our driver drove us to Rome and armed us with information along the way. We loved the fact that the tickets were pre bought and we avoided any queues saving us heaps of time for more sight seeing. We loved the fact that Francessco gave us all the information we needed and then gave us free time. The restaurant they took us to was excellent and I love the fact that Francessco would show us a picture of what Rome looked like in the past and what it looked like now. Rome in Limo did exactly what they said they would and I highly would reccommend anyone to use them. Thank you for such a memorable day.

I have used Rome in Limo on 3 occasions and will be using them once again this year as I return to Italy. They are my company of choice as they provide an excellent product and are a very professional organization. I have always had a great experience with all of my tours.

I have made so many notes in my Word file that it will take me another two days to read and digest it all! We are planning a Med trip (France, Italy) next year and this forum is invaluable. Hi Tooalto: Can you tell me more about your lunch and wine stop outside of San Gimignano? We'll be doing a day tour to Siena and San Gimignano with RIL and I'm looking for specifics as to how we want to plan our day.

 

How long was the wine tour and lunch stop? We are not big wine drinkers, but maybe I just need to try some really good wine to appreciate it! :D If it's not too long, this may be a good stop for us.

 

Did you find this place in advance or did RIL just suggest it to you the day of your tour?

 

How was the food? I want to eat the best possible food on this trip. ;)

I'll be happy to answer your questions. The name of the winery is Tenuta Torciano. It was just beautiful, like you would picture a vineyard in Tuscany. Pierluigi, the owner, was our host and we had our lunch in one of his cellars. He can accommodate two small groups in there.

 

We sat down to a lovely plate of salumi, cheese, tomatoes and crusty bread drizzled with their own olive oil. This was accompanied by a delicious white regional wine called vernacchia. This was followed by his ribollita, or bread soup, which everyone inhaled. This was also drizzled with fresh olive oil and paired with a nice dry red. After the soup came "mama's" lasagne this time drizzled with truffle oil and served with another red "super Tuscan". Finally we enjoyed biscotti with vin santo, a sweet dessert wine. We do love good wine and this was some of the best we've had. I'm sure the setting, good food and a great group added to the enjoyment. We purchased four bottles which went sent home so we didn't have to drag them with us and risk breakage. It truly was one of the most memorable days of our trip and also one of the best meals. You won't be disappointed.

Hi all!

 

We were on an Eastern Mediterranian Cruise Starting March 7, 2010 and had the chance to experience an off the ship private tour for 14/13 people utilizing 2 minivans, with Rome in limo. We had a wonderful very private tour that covered all we wanted to see. Poula was a wonderful guide and the driver handled the narrow streets perfectly. The planning and executing the tours was smooth and Duman and his staff were extremely helpful thru the entire process. I have highly recommended them to my travel agent, who is planning a group in Rome. She has been impressed also. Hope this gives you a comfort level if you are trying to experience Rome in a short period of time. It can be done and done reasonably.

I booked my upcoming Rome trip with RomeinLimo. They told me not to buy tickets ahead of time as we will be able to purchase them on the spot. I told them that I didn't want to wait in lines, and they said we wouldn't have to. I trust this reputable company but I am looking for some reassurance/insight cruisecritic community as to why we do not need to purchase tickets for the Vatican and Colosseum ahead of time. Can tour guides skip the line in purchasing tickets?

While we used Romecabs for out tour in Rome, and to the Vatican, we also did not purchase our tickets ahead of time. Stefano had arranged for a guide for us and she had the tickets in hand. No waiting.

We have used Rome in Limo for our tour last year to Pisa and San Gemignano and you can rest assured they have not only given you the best information but also will show you a wonderful time in Rome.

We used RomeInLimo in 2008 to see Vatican and they purchased the tickets and had someome stand in line so when we met them for the tour we just had to go with their contact and there was no line to wait in. They deliver what they promise. We are going back to Rome this June and have already booked three new tours with them. They are a class act!

We used them two years ago, they took care of everything ticket wise in Rome and Forence. In Pisa we did it on our own but they were clear about that. Are you using their guide? If so no worries as the guide will purchase your groups tickets and escort you in.

It could be the time of year that you are traveling. RIL purchased tickets for us in october, but someone traveling with us at the last minute did not have a ticket and he was able to purchase with no line. We all went in together. I would trust their judgement.
