Questions - NCL - Sun - Alaska - Thanks

We have not been on an NCL Cruise before, and therefore would like a bit of advice regarding dress code on board - particularly for evening meals?

Is smart casual OK for every night? Are jackets/ties required for men at all?

We are two couples - all in our 50's - going to Alaska on the NCL Sun on 4th June.

We have never been to Alaska before - and so would also like to know about temperatures in June -( but I can always ask this question on the Alaska Board if necessary).

Any advice at all would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you for your very prompt reply - which is very helpful.

Another question would be - Can we expect there to be any ballroom dancing in any of the Lounges on NCL? (particularly the Sun)

Only a few people will dress up in a tie and jacket. A few more might wear a jacket, but the vast majority will not.

Ballroom dancing? The formal stuff like you might see on the Queen Mary has pretty much gone. One of the lounges will have a band and some nice dancing.

Others have answered you about the dress code so I will concentrate on the weather and clothing for that.

I too am from the UK and cruised Alaska last year and will again this June. Here in the West Midlands we have had some very mixed weather for the last week or so. Right now the sky is blue and it is quite warm. Yesterday it was warm when the sun was around but also often very cloudy, cool and showery. This is Alaska weather in a nutshell. It can change in no time at all. To be prepared for it wear layers. Start with a t-shirt, then a sweatshirt or jumper then a spring weight anorak. If your anorak isn't very good at keeping you dry in rain then a lightweight waterproff that you can carry with you. I got 2 for us on eBay for around £5 each and they pack away really small. Footwear for keeping your feet dry also helps but no need for wellies, just good leather walking shoes or trainers are perfect for excursions.
