kruzerci Posted May 21, 2009 #1 Share Posted May 21, 2009 We have only done one specialty restaurant and it was on Voyager years ago. We went on formal night, so people were fairly dressed up, including ourselves. On our last couple cruises we didn't go to the MDR on formal nights, only because it's such a hassle to drag the hanging bag out for formal clothes when we fly in, it's just more to worry about at the airport and harder to find a cab with enough room. Anyways, I usually bring khakis and dress shirts and she brings nice dresses for dinner. Is that fine for Chops or Portofino? How are other people usually dressed on a normal night? Thanks! ChipLondon Posted May 21, 2009 #2 Share Posted May 21, 2009 Normally.....................you will find every kind of dress styles on a regular night. The only thing that ships advise against is shorts in the evenings in the main or speciality restaurants. Althought the Windjammer is more casual. ken_nyc Posted May 21, 2009 #3 Share Posted May 21, 2009 On formal nights they do request that you are dressed for formal night.
sailingawaysoon Posted May 21, 2009 #4 Share Posted May 21, 2009 We were on two weeks ago (Freedom) and my husband wore dress pants and a shirt (no tie) and I wore capris and a dressy top. It seemed like that was the norm in the restaurant. This wasn't a formal night though. I hope you have a great cruise!

Beanie01 Posted May 21, 2009 #8 Share Posted May 21, 2009 Thanks guys, about how long is dinner in Chops or Portofino, like an hour and a half? My parents went to a specialty restaurant on Princess this past January. They said, and the cruise websites will tell you in their Q&A section, allow a good 2.5 to 3 hours. They said they were waited on hand and foot, and to dress nice because it's very classy. But yes, khakis and capris, when done with a polo/nice top, is considered nice. Personnally, I'll be dressed more cocktail-ish when I go in April, but that's only because I have the dresses.
ken_nyc Posted May 21, 2009 #9 Share Posted May 21, 2009 This is from the RCI website: From the first bite of the antipasto to the last spoonful of tiramisu, dining in the elegant atmosphere of Portofino is an evening to remember. Sample some of our chef's new creations or have one of your favorites prepared the classic way. Either way, you won't be disappointed. Parkay Posted May 21, 2009 #10 Share Posted May 21, 2009 On formal nights they do request that you are dressed for formal night. Not true. Chops and Portofino only request smart casual every night, including formal nights. It says "on formal nights, formal attire is also appropriate". Which means you can dress either way, either is appropriate.
