Sun Princess on her way to South Africa

Hi Linda & David

We are doing Ocean Princess next year Cape Town to Singapore. Can either of you advise of a good place to stay while in Cape Town pre cruise.

Maurice

Hi Maurice,

We stayed post cruise ex Pacific Princess for 3 days in Capetown and really enjoyed it. We stayed at the Holiday Inn Waterfront, which is just across from the V&A (Victoria and Alfred) waterfront precint. Friends we met on the cruise stayed at a Holiday Inn as well, but there one was stuck out in the suburbs, whereas we just walked down the road( during daylight) or took the hotels shuttle to the centre.

The V&A is a bit like a combination of Circular Quay, Darling Harbour, and QV Centre all rolled into one. Excellent dining and shopping. The ferries also leave from there for Robben Island.

There are many Hotels in that area, ranging from the outrageously expensive to modest. We found the Holiday Inn WATERFRONT to be just great

Hi Maurice,

We stayed at the Culinan Southern Sun, 1 Culinan Street. We booked this hotel independently but this turned out to be the same hotel that Princess used Post cruise.

It was very close to the V&A Waterfront, just a short 10 minute walk.

You could also pick up the Hop on Hop off bus just around the corner at the convention centre, which was great because it also took you into the city, beaches, Table mountain, botanical gardens, bird park and many other places. I would definately stay there again.

You will love Cape Town, I am just sorry we did not stay there longer, we only had three days.

I certainly agree with that.

Just another tip. Your Hotel will have a tour desk and there are lots of tour operators there,so you can plan your tours to the weather conditions. The day we arrived they suggested going up the Mount that day as it was so clear, and that proved to be right as on the following days the clouds rolled in and covered it. All the tours are in a fairly compact area/region as well, so most can be done as a 1/2 day tour.
