Hi Dingoboy.

Would not suggest you stay in Torre on the sunday night as at that time of year there will be hardly anything open and very quite.

The bars do not get busy till around 11.30 pm.

There would be much more to see a do in Malaga.:)

Thanks for that.

I've got a few other quick questions if you don't mind for our local on the ground expert!

If we arrive Saturday night, would it be practical - sensible - or downright stupid to attempt a day trip to Gibralter?

Is it worth seeing and is so would we need to hire a car or could we train it?

Thanks again for your help. Look forward to meeting you.

Got the same quote back from two hotels on our short list at 76.50 EUR per night including tax and breakfast.

I know the BARCELÓ has great reviews and is at the train station, but we have also been looking at the HOTEL MONTE MÁLAGA that is down at the water front - which has the advantage of balconies which I thought might be nice to sit and watch our ship sail in.

Can any one offer advice to help us choose which one might be a better option.

And I'm so psyched that we have at least three continents posting here and meeting on the cruise. Will be great!

I'm wondering what others will be wearing for the formal nights. With the weight restrictions on flying, it's going to be difficult to bring the tux. But fashion is never easy...especially for the usually unfashionable like me!

On the Caribbean cruises I've been on "formal" night was really more "semi-formal" with men in suits and ties. But I can see how the "romance" of the transatlantic experience might require the tux.

What are your plans?

a good question in light of the luggage restrictions of airlines these days. Jack and I will just be taking a smart black suit that has multiple purpose application. On our pacific cruise the head waiter was great and said words to the effect .... This is your cruise and your ship and so wear what ever feels comfortable for you. ..... I had the sense that words and intent were royal carribean policy. As geoff and ronnie are heading to switerland before hand they will be restricted in luggage so will likely just have shirt and tie.

We've been assigned 7360, a starboard aft balcony. It's a D2 category so I'm happy since we just did the balcony guarantee.

That's great news David ... Especially as cheapscapes like us who have inside cabins now have somewhere to have a drink with a view!

That's why I book promenade cabins when I sail by myself. I can be thrifty and have a view too! Plus I have a bird's eye view of the parades. :p

On my last RCI transatlantic men's formal attire was a mix from shirt/tie/no jacket to tuxedo with all the accessories. Cruise lines know about the airline baggage restrictions and have greatly relaxed enforcing dress suggestions. In fact, the daily programs have switched from "formal required" to "formal suggested."

Take a cue from the more exclusive/deluxe cruise lines - most of them have an all-casual attire policy.

Bottom line, wear what makes you happy.

All are always welcome! Especially if you bring along some illegal booze! :D

nice one

Tom, not sure what this means?

Yes the promenades are good for that...also viewing or giving a free show to the occupants of the cabin directly across the promenade! :o

Our upgrade to the balcony came because of a balcony discount for Diamond RCCL members, so it was just $759 pp for us. One thing I do like about the interiors is the full curtain that can be drawn across the cabin separating the beds from the sitting/bathroom area.

Great advise, Warren and James! Thanks. I'll hit the middle ground and be happy.

I did share a table with some yokels from Kansas who showed up for formal night in shorts and floral print shirts....and drunk and potty-mouthed. Their wives were horrified, but not enough to ask them to leave. I wasn't brave enough :( but should have. Clothes don't make the man, but actions surely do! And some men are better out of clothes, but I guess that's not a dinner table discussion :D

We're flying out of Ft. Lauderdale that day back to Nashville and "real life". But it will be a short week back with the Thanksgiving holiday.

If you or anyone else needs Ft. Lauderdale info or accommodations, let me know. I have a friend with a great travel business and he specializes in Ft. Lauderdale and Key West.

Dave, I'm glad the balcony upgrade worked out for you. $759 is a great deal and you got assigned to a larger room. Last year on Independence, we had a D2 room and were surprised of seeing a full size sofa in our room . This year, we paid more than $759 for a E1 room and will not expect too much in our room.

I agree with Warren and James about the formal nights. Tux looks good but not every man wears one onboard. Although we should be happy with how we are dressed, I wouldn't feel comfortable dressing "too casually" in the dining room on a formal night. I'm sorry that your tablemates made you uncomfortable. I hope it won't happen to you again. :) Jerry

as we fly out that night we need a car to get us from Miami. Would you know or can suggest web site or company to try for best rates? And any ideas for what to do during that day would be most welcome. The same applies for the canary islands too .... At this stage we are just planing tohire a car unless anyone else who hAs been there has any better ideas.

Has anyone been to the water park at atlantis in nassau?

Thanks again everyone for your suggestions to date.

We're hiring a car to get us from Miami to FLL airport. I'll let you know what I find out. How many of you will there be?

I've walked through the water park at Atlantis. It's cool, but not worth what I hear they charge for a day pass. I went to the spa there and that's how I got through the security, but I had to escorted by security to the spa. But was then let go on my own to leave, so we walked around. But all guests have armbands on so we just walked around and didn't try to get on any of the water park features. Didn't want to be recognized "behind the lines" and escorted out.

Frankly I haven't found too much appealing about Nassau. I have friends there and usually visit with them on the (too) many port days I've spent there.

Didn't mean to sound off so much about what we paid....not too nice, so sorry about that!

I agree that I'll dress I'll as "formally" as I can accomplish given the traveling circumstances. I'm sure all have their own way of addressing it. I tend to always want to be over- rather than under- dressed, but we'll see how I come out on this. I think the "smart black suit" is the best option for me.

That's why curtains and robes were invented.

In the morning when I'm having my breakfast I open the blackout curtains and keep the semi-sheers closed. It gives me the illusion of light coming in from "outside."

I would personally give Gib a miss on a sunday as most things would be closed.

There is quite a lot to see in Malaga (as suggested-I would do the open top bus first to get your bearings.

Its hop on hop off and your ticket is valid for 24 hours):)
