wripro Posted July 17, 2009 #131 Share Posted July 17, 2009 CurlyQ, The Patio Grill is all around the pool. The menu stays the same, although there are more than enough choices so you don't have to repeat if dining there more often. The Colonnade is themed dinners (Italian, French, Asian, Indian, Spanish, Medieterranean etc.) with a different one each night. Plus you can dine indoors at the Colonnade which is quite elegant. Also at the Patio Grill you can dress informally at any time while at the Colonnade people tend to adhere to the evening's dress code. (Actually, they did the night I was at the Patio Grill too.) markham Posted July 17, 2009 #133 Share Posted July 17, 2009 I wrote about my experience with Greek taxi drivers in one of my reviews of the magnificent Seabourn Odyssey. This was about the behavior of the one who tried to fleece me of 56 euros for taking me halfway back to the ship after I had already agreed with him 20 euros. About NY, it has been decades since the commission cleaned up the business. Taxis have meters that are controlled (and I supposed examined) and the license number of the cab as well as the phone number for complaints are in plain view in a couple of places. Nothing like that in Athens where the driver flipped up the trunk lid as he drive away so I could not make good on my promise to report him. This is a blight on any city with pretensions to support tourism!

This is a blight on any city with pretensions to support tourism! Athens Taxi drivers are NOTORIOUS! If possible, go to a nice hotel and have the concierge order a taxi for you. They will let you know the "real" price, and you will have a better experience. Taxi drivers do NOT want to make concierge's angry! ;) Host Dan

JaneBP Posted July 18, 2009 Author #137 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Someone on ebay is selling a Seabourn Odyssey merino wool throw, that will soon be sold on the ship. Nothing has been said about the shops on the ship. What were they like? Anything interesting to buy? Isit run by the same vendor as the Triplets? I just hope for a few postcards that have various photos and perhaps a souvenier for a grandchild. I don't need glittering jewelry or sportswear. Perhaps a disposable camera or two? I did buy a QM2 beach towel once. And how about the casino? No discussion of that, either. wripro Posted July 18, 2009 #138 Share Posted July 18, 2009 The Seabourn shop is actually quite nice, huge compared to the triplets and with a good variety of merchandise. Frankly, I never buy much in these stores though we did get two Odyssey Maiden season T shirts. Most of the shopping I expect was done by people trying to use up shipboard credits. As for souvenirs for grandchildren, can't help since I don't have any and didn't check that out. I'm sure you'll be able to find something. There is also a very high end jewelry shop which sells H. Stern, Chopard, Piaget watches plus a selection from a jewelry designer who was on board the maiden and whose name I forget. Her jewelry is equally forgettable unless you're into glitz. The casino is also much larger though not being a gambler I only walked into it once. It seemed more than adequate.
SantaAna,CA Posted July 18, 2009 #139 Share Posted July 18, 2009 The large windows in the "Seabourn Suite" cabins on the Pride, Spirit and Legend have little window "seats". Do the cabins on the Odyssey (not the veranda cabins, obviously) have these little window "seats"? Just curious. Jane

Martita B. Posted July 19, 2009 #141 Share Posted July 19, 2009 wripro I believe you're referring to the jewelry designer, "Bellari." Miss Pam wore Mrs. Bellari's gorgeous pearls (with her white suit) during the naming ceremony. Pam related to me later that she didn't buy the pearl strands, however, as they were too pricey. I'm anxious to see the Seabourn logo clothing in the Odyssey Boutique. Martita B.
wripro Posted July 19, 2009 #142 Share Posted July 19, 2009 Martita, Yes, that was her name, Bellari. I had heard that her things were very expensive considering she's not a name designer. I have a feeling she'll go the way of Bulgari on Silversea.
Martita B. Posted July 19, 2009 #143 Share Posted July 19, 2009 wripro I was tickled at what Miss Pam said....."I didn't want to tell Ray the pearls were $20,000!" I agree with you....I don't think her expensive jewelry will be very popular on Seabourn or really any other line. I take (and most ladies I know) a stand of old pearls and feel very dressed and comfortable in these. MB

Bellari was on the Cunard Vistafjord fall Trans-Atlantic crossings that I sailed on in the late 90's. She was not too popular back then most likely due to the pricing. I personally did not care for her jewelery designs but, then again, I am no jewelry expert.
lord of the seas Posted July 20, 2009 #145 Share Posted July 20, 2009 Just looked at the Bellarri website The slogan says "To wear Bellarri,is to be remembered" Their designs looked awful. My wife says that she will stick with Bulgari (I remember the prices)

The casino was larger with updated slots including video poker and some penny interactive ones, though it did appear that there were not enough of the penny machines and too many traditional slots. One big change is they now have an electronic system to use your Seabourn card to charge withdrawals for casino play to your overall bill and electronically maintain any credit balances when you cash out. They had 2 blackjack tables and a roulette table. They seem to have eliminated the "Ocean Poker" game that was played on the triplets and I did hear a few express disappointment about that. The electronic debit/credit system had a few glitches at first but the issues were soon resolved. The staff was great as always and the service in the casino was attentive. JaneBP Posted July 23, 2009 Author #147 Share Posted July 23, 2009 With Thanks to Col Wes for the 'heads up' as it were, here are the Odyssey Spa Prices! I think if they are not published in the suite, I will print them out and take them with me as a decision-making guide. I wonder if they have port day specials. http://luxurycruisebible.blogspot.com/
PeaSea8ch Posted July 23, 2009 #148 Share Posted July 23, 2009 Was there a deck BBQ followed by the RTB show or is this being phased out for the young triplets?
wripro Posted July 23, 2009 #149 Share Posted July 23, 2009 On the maiden there was no deck barbecue but there was a rock show with dancing. They called it something else, forget what now. I don't know what they'll do in the future. I happened to be dining at the Patio Grill that night so it was a great segue into the show.
JaneBP Posted July 23, 2009 Author #150 Share Posted July 23, 2009 I wonder, considering the effort it takes for 200 passengers, if it might be too unwieldy. After all, ever been to a wedding reception of that size? I rest my case <G>
