Ok this is going to be a silly question I know... The cruise ship casino will be a new thing for us. We have only sailed Disney and have never been to any other casinos on land. However, my Husband and I just want to experience the casino at least once, just playing slots. We will be sailing on RCCL and I was wondering if I can just bring a couple rolls of quarters to use in the slot machines or if I have to go about it a different way?

Casino Clueless:confused: LOL

Thanks for the help!

Do NOT carry all those heavy quarters! You can get them in the casino, if you choose to handle those dirty coins, or just slip a bill into the machine, and play as many "coins/credits" as you wish. For instance, on a quarter machine, if you put $5 into the machine, you will get 20 credits. You can bet either 1 credit at a time ($.25) or bet the "MAX" (which is what you should do) which can be 2-4 credits at a time. That will maximize your chance of winning the Jackpot! Many machines have gone "coinless" and they will spit out a "voucher" for any unused money or winnings. You will cash that in at the cashiers booth in the casino.

If you have quarters then bring them. The machines take either quarters, bills or big $1 slugs. You can also get cash from your Seapass card. They'll cash your quarters out for you anytime you want!

They have not only quarter machines, but ones for 2 cents, 5 cents, 10 cents and upwards. I have the best luck on the 5 cent machines --- but only with the ones where max bet is 9. Some of them are 20, so if you go with max bet you're handing over a dollar at a time! Yikes! That adds up fast.

Usually early in the cruise, the casino will host some 'lessons'. Basically just a slower time when dealers are ready/able to assist more. Just go and try, no worries.

In my opinion, Roulette is the easiest to progress to beyond slots. Plenty of online help to get you started with Roulette. Easy to see/know what you are betting on and how you win or lose.

If you really want to learn, watch your on board schedule for the classes. Also look for the time --usually 1x per cruise at some hideously inconvenient hour -- that you can go to the casino to double your money. For example if you pay $20, they will give you $40 worth of chips. I am not much of a gambler but usually take advantage of this. I pocket the original $20 then play with their money. For the real gamblers $20 is nothing but I use it to amuse myself.

I agree. My husband is the slots manager at a land based casino, so I hear a lot about it. Most slot machine manufacturers and casinos are going "coin free". The "cage" will happily turn coins into bills but most new machines only take bills. Also, if the bills you will be playing with in a coin free casino are tattered you may want to trade them at the cage for newer ones because sometimes the readers won't accept them.

I'm not a gambler

but could from time to time be tempted to throw away $20 messing around with slots

-slots that took metal coins, had an arm so I could get some exercise

and wot tinkled my winnings into the tray below.

Nowadays I stare at the odd computerised Thing before me

and think No Freakin WAY, dude!

  • 3 weeks later...

If you don't mind the weight. Rolls of quarters work best. One in each hand in a bar fight. They have penny slots. Up to 15 lines and 10 coins per line. Hummm. Thats $1.50 per pull. If you only bring $20 for a one week cruise, play the first day. Best odds. Hope you win enough for the next six days play.
