Seafood around Holiday Inn on the Bay San Diego

Recommended Posts

As mentioned, a large seafood place right across the street. Also, several seafood places in Seaport Village - a shopping area about a 10-15 minute walk down the boardwalk (to your left as you exit the HI).

Anthony's Seafood Grotto right across the street is a family style restaurant...pretty informal, decent seafood, a San Diego institution since 1948. Run by the same family (the Ghio's) all that time. Be prepared to wait (no reservations) on a busy weekend or holiday.

A few blocks south is the Fish Market. Actually one of a chain. Good seafood in both the upstairs (more expensive and upscale) and downstairs areas. They only take reservations for the upstairs area unless for a large party.

Both these places have great views of the bay, so you should try to get a window table.

The fish market has become more of our favorite than Anthony's. We sit outside and enjoy looking at the water. It is on the otherside of the Midway and a nice walk afterwards to Sea Port Village.

If you want an little more 'upscale' experience, try

Anthony's Star of the Sea Room....adjacent to the

regular Anthony's Fish Grotto but much quieter,

with very nice ambience and great seafood.

You can't go wrong with the Fish Market either

but a lot more casual and noisy.

Enjoy either!

Does that still have a dress code?

I bet you haven't eaten there lately! The Star of the Sea room has been closed for several years, and the space is now only available for rental and catering to private parties such as weddiings. The Grotto does not have a dress code (other than mandatory shirt and shoes).

I never ate in there but I remember 40 years ago seeing my parents dress up for a dinner there. We usually like to eat in the bar area. That area doesn't seem like such a cafeteria. Of course it has been years since we ate there. We usually go to the fish market.
