Swine flu in Emerald Princess??

Hi:

What is the earliest time are they allowing passengers to get off the Emerald Princess in Copenhagen??

I have to be at the airport at 9:00am.

Do I have enough time??

That shouldn't be a problem. In June we were on the first transfer bus at 6:20 am and we were at the airport before 7 am (that's a good time to leave on a weekday - no traffic yet). We had more than an hour wait before boarding our flight that departed at 9:05 am.

Thanks very much for the information sounds like I will be okay

About 150 passengers from the cruise ship Marco Polo, which is anchored in Scotland, ill from a virus which causes vomiting, announced by the health authorities in Britain.

Two patients have been transferred to hospital while the others remain in the cruiser, said Ken Oouts, director of public health of the local branches of the National Health Service. He added that passengers are most likely infected by the virus Norwalk (or norovirus).

Note that an Englishman 74y.o died in the ship, however, Transocean Tours, which owns the company, based in Germany, confirmed that his death is not linked to the virus. The elderly suffer from chronic illness and "suffered a heart attack", as the company announced.

According to Transocean Tours ship carries 769 passengers and 340 crew members.

Wednesday, 08 July 2009 18:32 MS Emerald Princess, a cruiseship owned by US line Princess Cruises, called in Helsinki on Wednesday with health officials saying five crew had swine influenza.

The ship had sailed into Helsinki in late June without declaring its then 13 swine flu cases.

On Wednesday, an infectious disease specialist inspected the vessel after its crew told officials about the swine flu situation.

The ship was to cast off for St Petersburg Wednesday evening.

We're scheduled to sail on the Emerald on July 25th and still not sure whether to go or cancel. Anyone know if there were any new outbreaks on the current sailing yet?

You might want to check out the current "Live From" thread started by Grannycb:

Her posts are #'s 5, 10, 15, 18 and 22 so far. It seems like the Swine Flu situation is not major and under control (and primarily effecting the crew and they have been quarantined). Unless you have some underlying concern I would go and just take the ususal common sense precautions.

Hope this helps a little.

Erica and Bill,

We are on the same cruise with you, July 25. Where in Southern Cal are you from? We live in San Fernando Valley and are flying out of LAX on the evening of 23rd. Have you been on our roll call? There is a meet and great on the first day at sea, 26th at the Adagio Bar at 3:00. Hope to see you on board. Helen and Zack from Tarzana, CA.

We were on the June 25th Emerald cruise. There was in fact a delay in getting off the ship in St. Petersburg, you could see some staterooms being specially cleaned by workers wearing masks, and the Commodore sent a couple of letter updates to all passengers about the situation. Other than the temperature-taking and masks in Russia, there was no evidence of anything major going on. Don't be hysterical and skip your Emerald cruise.

I agree with taxatty 100%. No need to be concerned. I feel there is more likelihood of getting the flu at your local grocery store than here. We are enjoying our trip so much. It would be a real shame to miss all this.

Hi Helen and Zack,

We live in Santa Clarita. We're traveling with my brother and his family and my sister-in-law, Judy, has stayed in touch with the postings on the roll call. We definitely plan on being at the meet and greet (assuming we don't decide to cancel at the last minute icon9.gif ). Looking forward to meeting you.

Erika and Bill
