Twinkd Posted July 18, 2009 #1 Share Posted July 18, 2009 Hi there - my husband and I will be in Juneau in early August and I have read lots about a walk/hike to a waterfall at Mendenhall Glacier. It sounds like it is beautiful and well worth the trip but is it more a hike or a walk/stroll? Also how long does it take?? Thanks for your advise.:)
Budget Queen Posted July 18, 2009 #2 Share Posted July 18, 2009 If the trail is completed, then 10-15 minutes. IF not, a little longer.
Nutbunch Posted July 18, 2009 #3 Share Posted July 18, 2009 I'd say is more of a walk/stroll than any strenuous hike. However you do have to traverse a few small streams. For that I'd suggest some waterproof shoes, but we made out with our sneakers. It is not maintained at all, you can see the waterfall in the distance and just head for that. The turn off is to the right just past the vistor center.
mountainhouse Posted July 18, 2009 #4 Share Posted July 18, 2009 We were there in late June. They were working on the trail, so there was no way for us to get right up to the waterfall. Still, it was a nice hike and worth doing. Level, easy walk.
Marie321 Posted July 18, 2009 #5 Share Posted July 18, 2009 We were there also in June and we got right up to the waterfall. At that time there were several large boulders that we climbed over to get to the waterfall face. That is the only strenuous part of the trail. They were working on it and eventually, I don't think the climb over the boulders will exist.
