Effective January 2008, smoking is only permitted in designated areas and outdoors on the Starboard side of the ship (contact the Guest Services for details). Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, hallway or corridor. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on Oasis class Boardwalk or Central Park private balconies, however, it is permitted on private ocean view balconies of balcony/suite staterooms. A $250 penalty will be applied to the SeaPass for guests found smoking in staterooms or on the private balconies in Boardwalk and Central Park onboard Oasis class ships. Pipe & cigar smoking is only permitted within the Cigar lounge. If no Cigar lounge exists on the ship, there will be a designated area for pipe & cigar smoking, you will find out the location once onboard. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

marshhawk. My DH is a smoker. We always get a balcony cabin so he can smoke out there. There is usually a smoking section, under cover on the starboard side of the pool deck. Some of the lounges/pubs/bars have smoking areas also. On the Explorer, and I'm guessing other ships of the same size, there is a cigar lounge that he really enjoyed. It was where all the ship officers hung out to smoke; he heard/learned a lot. Good luck.

Hi,

just back from a cruise on RCCL's Splendour of the Seas out of Venice.

The smoking area's were cigar/cigarette area of Viking lounge--one half of the caberet lounge (can't remember the name),the casino and outside starboard decks. When having a drink in the champagne bar it was no hardship just to walk out of the double doors onto the deck for a ciggie.A very good ship for smokers.

Hope this helps,

Taffygirl

Most of the bars are non-smoking...there will be one (usually the Schooner Bar) that has a smoking area. There are really few areas inside the ship where smoking is allowed.

DW and I are both smokers. We were on Navigator of the Seas last fall. Of course, we had a balcony cabin.

There was always ample space in the pool area (starboard side) where smoking is permitted.

One of the few places where smoking was permitted was the Schooner Bar... BUT... the smoking area was tiny, seats were generally not available, and it was situated in such a way that you couldn't see the performer!

One side of the area between the MDR and the casino (Boleros?) was a smoking area, but was, again, quite small and inadequate to handle the demand. However, the bartenders there were particularly helpful with ashtrays, etc.

We didn't patronize any of the bars on the Plaza level, so I can't tell you anything about them.

Finally, the casino had adopted a new policy which I understand is spreading throughout the industry: No smoking in the casino on Formal Mights.

Thanks for all the info. I am hoping to take a cruise in Jan. or Feb. next year. I,ve just learnt that all UK. based ships allow no smoking anywhere indoors at all so am looking for an alternative. The information on smoking area,s seems very limited. I have emailed R. Carribbean but have only had a reply to the fact that they,ve recieved it but as yet no reply with information. Someone has told me that the Independance is a no-smoking ship from the UK but is possibly different going out from US. Its going to depend on the ship,s policy as to who I book with. Cheers folks.

I was on the MARINER last year and found that most of the bars and lounges allowed smoking. I just look for an ashtray and if I dont have one I ask the bartender. I also ask the person/people sitting next to me if they mind if I smoke. If they say yes, I move or I just hold off, no biggie.
