Disembarking in Civitavecchia

Our round trip cruise from Civitavecchia on Legends of the Seas gets back into port at 5 am according to our paperwork. We have a transfer/tour set up to meet at 9 am and tickets to the Vatican at 10 as instructed by our tour company. What time do the ships usually begin disembarkation? Should we take off our own luggage to save time? Would appreciate some feed back from others experiences at this port.

I can't comment on disembarking at Civitavecchia as I've only been there as a day stop, but one hour from there to the Vatican assumes that everything goes right and you don't get stuck in much traffic. Any chance you could change that pickup to 8:45 to give you some breathing room?

With a 5AM arrival, disembarkation will likely begin around 7, if not before, and a 9AM pickup will be near the end of disembarkation. There shouldn't be a need for you to do carry-off with your luggage.

Last November (on Celebrity) we were off the ship at 7:00 and many people had left long before us. The transfer company we were using had told us that in Civitavecchia, the ships empty early. Why don't you have your transportation pick you up at 8:00 - if you get to Rome early, you can stop for a pastry and coffee. That sounds like more fun that being late for tickets to the Vatican.

I would also vote for moving up your transfer time, to 8:30 or so. You shouldn't have any problem getting off the boat anytime after 7:00 (and maybe earlier). One hour from Civitavecchia to the Vatican, though, is tempting fate. Everything would have to go exactly right.

 

Taking off your own luggage might save a little time, but it shouldn't be a problem to have the ship take it off. Just fill out the disembarkation questionnaire so they know what transfer time you are shooting for, and they will arrange an early enough disembarkation for you.

We were on the Legend this June/July and disembarkment started at 6:16AM I feel you should be fine, just when you fill out you paperwork for disembarkment state that you have someone pick you up at 9:00AM and you want to be off the ship 8:30AM, always give yourself a little room.

We have been on the Legend two times in Civitavecchia, and have self-disembarked both times. If you can handle your luggage (all at once) then this way will save you time. I would change your tour/transfer time to 7:30-8:00 instead of 9:00 if you self disembark.
