Why do you prefer Carnival?

Are cabins really that much bigger on Carnival?

 

I'm going to be interested to taste the food on Carnival when I set sail on Monday. I'm a bit of a food snob, as a trained chef, so it should be interesting.

 

Don't the other cruiselines have similar ports of call?

Well...that will change your perspective, I'm sure.

 

DH and I enjoy the food - but we are not "foodies" and do not critique it in anyway. We order what we think we will enjoy - or want to try - any have always been pleased.

Compared to the 2 older, smaller ships we sailed on NCL they are ... by a lot. Not sure how NCL's newer ship cabin sizes are, though.

 

NCL's newer ships are beautiful. The cabins are smaller than carnival but well designed. While I prefer Carnival's larger cabins, over-all I would consider newer ships on either line as being similar in comfort. They are both great experiences. I would avoid any NCL ship built before 2002 like the plague. (or the noro-virus)

1. Carnival still loves Galveston, my home port.

 

2. Carnival has a better nightlife scene than the one RCL boat I was one (twice). My wife and I like to dance (mostly my wife loves to dance and I humor her). When Mama's happy, everyone's happy.

 

3. Larger casinos.

often, but not always. even more often for the 'entry level' cabins, like interiors and oceanview cabins...

well then, let me be the first to suggest you try the steak house / supper club, if it's available on your ship. that'll be the best food you find on the ship, no doubt... i'd be interested in your professional / trained opinion :)

they do, but carnival's are often better in comparison. cruises of the same number of nights often have more port stops, and tend to stay longer than on other lines. i've noted this in particular in the carnival vs. rccl kinda comparisons...

Bear Claw, Foodie here too. The menus look pretty good and I'm taking into consideration it is like a 3000 person banquet for every meal. Considering that I have high expectations.

 

I'll start with the Sushi.

i think your comparison of a banquet for 3000 is accurate...

 

but eek - let me just tell you beforehand, the sushi isn't all that ;)

 

it's ok for a snack, but certainly not the best (or even close) sushi i've had, and definitely not their strongest offering :)

 

have fun on destiny - i had a blast! bon voyage :D

aside from the aforementioned value versus other lines...

 

the FUN factor...

 

i appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, the stellar nightlife, the live music all over the place, the PIANO BAR, the funny cruise events, other entertainment like the comedians, and of course the food, cabins, relative lack of extra charges, and all that.

 

as a still relatively young adult, i also take comfort in the fact that there are a larger proportion of young or YOUNG AT HEART cruisers on carnival... for that reason, i'm likely to stick around for a little while here. :cool:

Aside from price.

 

The price is the biggest thing that keeps us coming back! You really can't go wrong pricewise! My other favorite things are the beautiful ship, gorgeous ports, better food than on RCCL, cabin size and activities offered on each cruise!!

My first cruise was on Celebrity. I read tons of reviews on all the cruise lines and the one thing I came away with was that Celebrity had the best food. And the reviews were correct; the food was unbelievably good, comparable to restaurants in New York and DC. I'm kind of a food snob and very picky. I don't eat at buffets, avoid chains as much as possible and feel McDonald's isn't food. But, while the food was great, the cruise was boring. I was dying for the cruise to end and swore I would never do it again.

 

But, 5 years later, I was looking for a quicky vacation. I couldn't think of anything to do where both my son and my husband would have fun and I would get pampered. So I settled on a cruise. We took the 4 day victory cruise to Canada out of New York. I was really surprised by the quality of the food (I avoided the buffet the entire time), and my son and husband enjoyed it. So the next year we took a 7 day cruise to Alaska. I did eat at the buffet once in the seven days, and it was passible, but the dining room food was great and the overall experience was fun. We had a really good time. So we are now booked on an eight day cruise to the caribbean. I may not eat at the buffet, but I will try the fish and chips, eat more of the pizza (though it doesn't compare to NY pizza), and greatly enjoy the dining room. And I will have fun.

 

So, my answer is, I would have given up on cruising if I hadn't tried cruising on Carnival. Its fun, there is always something to do, and the food isn't bad and is often quite good.

Dah dah, dah dah ... it's Captain Destiny!!!

 

Ooops, sorry this is a why do we love Carnival thread. OK, I will say with only one cruise under my belt (not Carnival either but I didn't book it), my favourite reason for sailing Carnival is Captain Destiny. He almost single handedly made me realize that the Destiny is an awesome ship and that I WILL sail with Carnival again ... and many more times :D

I like RCL Voyager best out of Galveston, awesome ship, lovely and classy decor.

 

15 s.f. one way or another just isnt that big of a deal

 

Ecstasy is my next favorite.

 

Conquest for variety, but dont really like the new big screen, ruins the pool for me.
