Acceptance of credit cards vs. euro

I heard that most restaurants are not taking credit cards only euros. Does anyone have any information on this? Thanks

Actually, we found that all of our restaurants in Italy took credit cards. AMEX is not as commonly accepted as Visa and Mastercard, but our Capitol One no-fee card is a Mastercard, so no problem for us!

Some of the smaller restos will not take CC they like cash as the CC charges them a high % for a fee.A lot of them do take CC and if any doubt just ask.Also,a notice of what CC is usually posted by the door.

Every place we went on our 12 day med cruise took MC or Visa.

If you plan on eating in honest-to-goodness restaurants, most will take credit cards (Visa, MC). However, don't plan on being able to use them necessarily in "to go" type places (e.g., if you're ordering an etto of pizza to go in Rome).

 

I operate on the assumption that it's always a good idea to have some cash on hand, "just in case"....
