Cooking Caribbean tour

Is everyone expected to cook.

Can you just watch?

Can you wander around the yard?

I'd rather be taking pictures of the scenery!

For the excursion in St Kitts you do not cook. You watch, listen

and eat:D and there is time for photos too. And since Lorraine

is teaching you about the food and the country, I think it would

be kind of rude to wander around during it.

Since I did not go on the one in Dominica I cannot answer that one.

Oops! Daria's in Dominica is the only one I'm interested in.

Has anyone on a recent NCL cruise done the cooking class with Daria in Dominica ?

I tried contacting them through the website (experiencescaribbean.com) to book the cooking class, but their reply was that it has to be booked through NCL. Only it's not listed on the NCL website as one of their shore excursions. So I'm confused as to whether or not it's actually offered via NCL.

It is on the tour list for Celebrity Equinox.

Recipes finally showed up after I sent a reminder email -- perhaps they were lost in cyberspace the first time.

The mountain is pretty steep, but the people who live here drive it all the time. That being said, I'm glad it was nice and sunny -- I would have been nervous on a wet road or with reduced visibility.

But the views from the top are so worth it!

I am going back to Dominica in November and I hope the cooking tour

is still being offered. Even through the cruiseline...I really want to finally

do it:D

Anyone know or if they have been on a Celebrity cruise if the cooking

tour is still an option?

Hi,:D I went on a cruise Nov 10-17th on Celebrity Summit and booked

an excursion in Dominica through the cruiseline and I have to say, it was

FABULOUS:D.....

This tour is called "Cooking Caribbean, Rum and Nature" and it is 87.00

and worth every penney.

It is held in a private home which is located up in the mountains...about

a 25 minute van ride. 4 cousins who are from Dominica are the hosts

and if you want to help cook you may and if not you can just eat.

It was really wonderful and I would do it again:)...we had the most

delicious lunch....fish in a fantastic sauce (flavorful but not too

spicey), fried plantains in a coconut breading...YUMMY....red beans

and rice, salad and for dessert, fresh grapefruit from the trees in

the yard. We also had a rum drink that is not your typical drink....

I am not normally a rum drinker but I LOVED IT:D....it is homemade

AND has fresh pumpkin juice in it...sounds stranges but it is

truely DELICIOUS!

Just wanted to post this for anyone looking for something culinary

to do in Dominica! Definitely a WINNER!:D

Oh..another thing, there were only 11 of us which made it even better!

I did Daria & Liz's tour a couple of years ago....loved it! Besides cooking and eating, we were shown around the neighborhood and took pictures. Got the recipes via email! I'm hoping it is offered in April when we'll be in Dominica on the Summit...friend wants to take it.

we had already been to dominica a few times and had done the hikes and waterfalls, so we thought we'd try this tour. we were glad we did! it's a pretty short but scenic drive to their home. the class involved both demonstration and enough hands on to feel like you are involved. the food was delicious and fun to prepare...a fish creole dish, coconut encrusted plantain, rum infused grapefruit, coconut rice, and a pumpkin rum drink. a nice easy day. would definitely recommmend.

On a recent cruise on the Celebrity Summit I took the excursion called "Cooking Caribbean" with 3 of my friends. We had a delightful afternoon and would recommend this to those who want a casual, easy and fun excursion. I have attached photos of the food we prepared and then ate - it was delicious! We had Coconut Battered Plantains, Fish in a tomato based sauce, red beans and rice, salad, dessert and an interesting rum drink with a pumpkin base like an eggnog. I have never posted pictures before, (unfortunately the one of the fish is over 2mb and it won't upload) any suggestions about how to add descriptions with pictures etc would be appreciated!

Can you link the info you used for that class, we are on a HAL cruise and it isn't one of their listed excursions but we would love to do that. Thanks

Hi:) no link to post as I went on the tour through the cruiseline.

We just got back from a 10 cruise on the Equinox and thoroughly enjoyed the cooking tour. In talking with Daria, she explained that they only work with Celebrity and Royal Caribbean as they provide all the business they are capable of handling. As pointed out earlier on this thread, they can handle an absolute maximum of 25 in a session, but prefer to hold it to 15 or so to allow anyone who wants to be"hands on" can have a chance to participate. On busy days they have one group in the morning and a second in the afternoon, so essentially they can only handle one ship a day.

I'm still waiting for my recipes, but then we only got home two days ago. And yes, this was the best excursion of this cruise or perhaps any cruise. My wife and I certainly felt we got our money's worth.
