Rare xpcdoojk Posted December 29, 2004 #26 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Oh and there was NO air involved....they live 15 minutes away from the terminal. And no it was not family members. There were two separate "kids" stolen" from. And I doubt if it was rifled in the hallway, probably downstairs waiting to unload. And yes I have always trusted the housekeeper staff too, heck you would know for sure then who did it. Don't we still put the bags into the hallway before midnight, and they dissappear thru the night? I have never been able to just give my bags to someone.... jc
PTarbay Posted December 29, 2004 #27 Share Posted December 29, 2004 I am sorry to burst everyone's bubble, the suitcase were handed to the RCI folks, the "kids" had to run up to the cabin and give them to them (such party animals my youngins)....and the items were taken from two separate suitcases. If they were in such a rush is it possible they were inadvertantly left behind and not packed?Have you checked with lost and found?Well it could have been an employee that is a very serious accusation without proof. How did the kids know when to run up and hand the bags to someone? They are supposed to be left in the hallway.I have checked at 2 a.m. and they were still there. There is no way to know what time they will take them. Maybe the family of the OP should have been more prudent in their packing, but the blame has to lay with the person who opened the luggage and took the valuables. We should not be making excuses for a thief. I absolutely agree but noone has any way of knowing who the thief is.It is sad these kids lost their posessions. While it could be an employee I don't think the OP should state it was an employee as fact without any proof. shmthaus Posted December 29, 2004 #28 Share Posted December 29, 2004 My circumstance is nothing like what the OP had stolen, but DW and I had purchased a couple of magnets with our names to hang our CC door sign. They had been up for about 4 days and when we opened our door one morning, the sign was hanging down and the magnets were gone. Our cabin was a corner cabin, so the door was not in the normal path of traffic. We know that it was probably kids that took the magnets. It was such a small thing, but it was really disappointing. CallagDeb Posted December 29, 2004 Author #29 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Ok, there was no air, and they ran upstairs because they forget to put their luggage out and found them hauling the other rooms away.....so they were relieved they made it ok to give them in. ( Forgetful all the way) They discovered it was gone when they unpacked. I admit it was their fault, but I think there was a certain amount of expectation when you go on an RCI cruise.....we were in a JS and they were in a D1 right next to their sister and her family. I know they have the capability of xraying suitcases in the holding area. All I am saying, to myself as well as everyone, lock your suitcse before you put them out....there is capability of losing something you might NOT want to lose. I have cruised over 15+ times and never have, you can be sure I learned a lesson too. Hate to think of some taking my dirty clothes! HA.

CallagDeb Posted December 29, 2004 Author #31 Share Posted December 29, 2004 They had not forgotten to pack, they misunderstood when to put the suitcases out, and come to find we had over stayed in the casino and I asked the motherly quesiton....if course I had asked the motherly question before dinner if they were packed.....and they packed then. There was four of them in one cabin so they could not have rushed through packing in 5 minutes.
CallagDeb Posted December 29, 2004 Author #32 Share Posted December 29, 2004 That was on the members cruise last year on the Mariner? They took our magnets too, I was just as disappointed! Sorry different cruise but magnets just the same!
Sea Island Lady Posted December 29, 2004 #33 Share Posted December 29, 2004 I know they have the capability of xraying suitcases in the holding area.Good point as I wondered how a certain suitcase could be targeted. Other items that should never be packed are medicines, camera equipment, souvenirs and laptops. A lock will not help protect anything as they are made to be broken but can deter someone from targeting your suitcase. I use the platic cable ties and leave them on for the flight. If they are gone, then I know someone has been in my suitcase and can at least figure out where it happened. CallagDeb Posted December 29, 2004 Author #34 Share Posted December 29, 2004 How can you put the plastic ties on with checked luggage at an airport? I thought everything had to be unlocked? Due to Homeland security...and true locks can be broken into, but I can check that right away for tampering.....
Elizanessie Posted December 29, 2004 #35 Share Posted December 29, 2004 Cable ties are the best things to put on....as if/when security wants to check your luggage they cut off the ties and they then put a note inside your luggage expaining that they have checked your luggage and they put on replacement ties. When we are cruising I put on the locks for outside the cabin door...then when I arrive at the airport I change them over to cable ties. Sea Island Lady Posted December 30, 2004 #37 Share Posted December 30, 2004 How can you put the plastic ties on with checked luggage at an airport? I just do it! Never been asked to remove them. In fact I have gone through several major airports and never had the ties removed. The only airport that seems to have fun going through my bags is our small hometown airport.
hdawson Posted December 30, 2004 #38 Share Posted December 30, 2004 TSA even recommends the plastic cable ties. If they inspect the contents, they will put another one on and the color is blue.
firemandon Posted December 30, 2004 #39 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Do what we do...Don't take anything with any value and only take the cloths that you leave on the ship. Problem solved..you don't have any luggage to take back home.
kdowneymd Posted December 30, 2004 #40 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Here in New York City, ther have been a number of recent articles detailing thefts from baggage ( substantial losses in many cases) by the TSA employees who are baggage screeners. I think it far more likely that port employees and baggage handlers, less likely but possible ship staff and least likely passengers are responsible for the thefts. To blame the victims seems ridiculous.
VABeach Posted December 30, 2004 #41 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Thanks for posting this! I'm really sorry about your loss, that's terrible. Your post reminded me to tell my mom not to bring her good jewelry. I always buy fun costume jewelry to wear on the cruises because I don't want to have to keep track of my good stuff.;)
PTarbay Posted December 30, 2004 #42 Share Posted December 30, 2004 I read about on another thread and recently bought TSA approved locks. The TSA agents can open them but noone else.If they have opened them you will know because the little spot on the lock changes colors until I reset it. chgocruiser Posted December 30, 2004 #43 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Hi, I agree with Ken, lets give these folks a break. The only person that knows is the thief. Yes, don't leave the good stuff out, take only what you need. I'm sure they will remember this, and it is a good reminder for us all. But if we as a society keep making adjustments, for people that lie and steal, and say it is our fault, who is in the right?
chgocruiser Posted December 30, 2004 #44 Share Posted December 30, 2004 There are special locks that the TSA can open. I bought mine at Target. They have aTSA emblem on them. So you can keep your stuff locked up. I've seen people open bags up at the airport and put it back on the luggage rack. Sorry for your loss, bummer...people need to keep their hands on their own stuff.
