Leslieswiger Posted December 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2004 In this mornings "TORONTO STAR" the Canadian federal government, is urging travellers to register with the Canadian embassies when they venture abroad. Canadians can tell the federal government of their travel plans before they depart using an on-line service found at the Foreign Affairs website at www.fac.gc.ca. You can also use search Foreign Affairs Canada and get the information. Happy Sailings...Leslie Swiger:)
DFD1 Posted December 30, 2004 #2 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Probably a good idea. The rugged individualist in me does not particularly like it, but the more reasonable side of me says that it is probably for my own protection in a difficult and dangerous world. I may be wrong, but I don't think the US state department has issued any similar directive, but I would not be surprised to see it in the near future. Searanger Posted December 30, 2004 #3 Share Posted December 30, 2004 Foreign Affairs only advises those who are living in another country for more then 3 months to register. Or if you are visiting a troubled part of the world where there is an advisory in place. You would not registar for any trips that did not meet this criteria. The system would come to a complete deadlock if everyone travelling tried to registar.
