Using Amex Gift Cards on Cruise Lines?

I have about $1000 of Amex prepaid credit/gift cards that I received as gifts, and was planning on using them to pay off our onboard account on our upcoming cruise. I noticed on the back, however, it says 'cannot be used on cruise lines'. Anyone know exactly why, or if this is accurate? If I have a $100 prepaid card I won't be able to use this to pay off $100 of excursions?

Call Amex at least that way y'll get the correct answer.

If you go to the Amex Web site and look up the FAQs for gift cards, you'll see that they are not accepted on cruise ships.

You can not use them on the ship but you can use them to pay for the cruise before you sail. So pick up the phone and use them to purchase onboard credits for yourself before you cruise.

Bummer, I'm sorry the card and FAQ dont provide any further info....on the bright side, you should be able to make your next deposit with them for your next trip ;)

 

It's always great when generous friends and family give Visa or Amex gift cards, but they are usually best for every day expenses like gas and food. If you want to use them online for purchases, I believe you need to register them on the issuers site first, just an FYI in case you do.

I had a bunch of them too. I used them to buy myself a nice Tennis Bracelet at Diamonds International ;):D
